Just „working“ at the rear and with the german MOT/TÜV in sight I think also about new dampers.

So far I see in Germany there are „only“ adjustable SPAX available.

KONIs are only up to 1990models, KW suspension - not so deep pockets (more than 2000,-EUR).

So I‘m interested about some expierence. I found here a lot about the WOLF dampers and AVOs, but nothing about SPAX.

Hi René,

I have Spax dampers all round and am very happy with them.

I wanted a softer ride so have mine set to 12, 1 being the softest setting and 28 the hardest. I go to 16 at the rear when touring with a big case strapped to the back.

They are easy to adjust, the knob can be accessed without removing the wheels or lifting the car.

When they were fitted I also had new tyres and brake reaction bars which transformed the ride and handling.

Regards

Not shure about the shipping and tax. I can’t them from „Spax Germany“ for 160,-EUR/piece, no shipping to pay.

The front would be 10,-EUR more.

Thank you both!

Regards

René

I too have Spax adjustable dampers all round. When setting them I followed the Spax instructions and started with a low setting maybe four clicks in. I then drove a few miles and increased (front ones in this case) and repeated all the time checking ride comfort and nodding of the bonnet. At around twelve clicks in (out of 28) the nodding stopped and you could feel dampers doing their job. It was like a sweet spot had suddenly been found. Surprisingly to me despite the firmness I found the car was riding bumps in a more comfortable manner. I backed off a click as recommended and called it a day smile

René, you may have difficulty setting yours when you get them. This due lack of bumpy pot holed roads in Germany. Over here we are so lucky to have them everywhere innocent

After a little more than five weeks for delivery I‘ve got my Spax.

And with some days to play until it must went in hibernation today I‘ll fit them. Is there something special for to keep attention?

I‘ll lift the Plywoodracer a little up and secure it with axlestands. First the front, than the rear. Where the best places for the axlestands?

I still have not found the need to replace my dampers after some 56k miles. They still work fine.
However, when I looked at Wolf’s new dampers, I see that they also market a kit consisting of long bolts and a variety of spacers. This is because apparently the OEM dampers as fitted in the factory do not always line up properly and may be working slightly skewed. Whether it makes a lot of difference or not, I don’t know but obviously Cain thinks so!
Could this be why some dampers need replacing before others, depending on the degree of misalignment and subsequent piston wear?
