Well I always thought she was hilariously funny.

Interesting comments from a group, myself included who I suspect have done rather well in life.... Ms Rayner likewise had done well, from what I suspect were rather more difficult beginnings than for most of us.. It seemed obvious to me that she had to resign and also that her upbringing created a political skillset likely to disadvantage her in the house of commons, relative to those who were so much better advantaged at a much earlier stage in life, for example Jacob Rees Mog.... Chalk and cheese perhaps..

I like to think my humanitarian instincts may have precedence over any possible political ideals that I may be inclined to adopt, and would suggest that if you really want to make a somewhat more informed judgements on Ms Rayner, then perhaps spend a bit of time viewing the vid below.

I like to think that Rory is a reasonable judge of charachter, and less likely to be as biased to the right as Alister may be to the left... Whatever... !

She over reached, it's that simple. Attempting to blame her solicitor was never the greatest master plan, because any solicitor will push back. She knows that her affairs are under close scrutiny, especially after the previous debacle about where her main residence is, so anyone with an ounce of common sense would have belt and braces the Brighton Flat purchase.

She didn't. Maybe she couldn't understand the advice, but whatever happened, the woman who declares that "people underestimate me" screwed up.

But then if we were only ever to be judged by our mistakes Dave...?

Stamp Duty calculation is not exactly rocket science, the criteria and basis for the various qualifying criteria is pretty straightforward and well understood, even a Government website to identify and calculate your particular stamp duty due on the transaction is available. So pretty inexcusable to get it so wrong and does question what was the basis of the transaction.

Ok, people make mistakes, but she compounded it by further misrepresentations as to advice received, to cover her tracks. That to me goes to the heart of the matter and her lack of honesty and any sense of decency/principles guiding her actions, taking us all for and treating us all as fools, for a second time. That's the most telling aspect and reflection of her character.


I hope the local party deselect her, as clearly she hasn't resigned her seat, as clearly not fit for high office and being a representative of the voters..I disagree about one's background and more humble beginnings are excuses, no matter where you come from simple honesty and integrity are pretty core values to most families no matter what their background

As well as not feeling aligned with any one political party, neither do I hold to any religious group, though I suspect there is much learning available if one is perhaps not inclined to be overly biased, which in a world where there will ever be "discussion" to extremes on one side, there will ever be entirely opposing views available to extremes on the other side....? It is what it is, and brings to mind the seemingly wise words which I read in times past..."Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"... ?

Nowhere do we see the Dunning Kruger effect more strongly demonstrated than in politics. Perhaps that is the prime reason why less able individuals seek power, whereas those who recognise their weaknesses avoid such positions of power.

In this case, Rayner has played on her background and lack of education. Twice now she has attempted to manipulate taxation and property laws, whilst under public scrutiny, and instead of coming clean, attempted a smoke screen to avoid blame.So it's all very well casting stones, but any reasonable person I know would not play that game.

I spent many years dealing with taxpayers who got it wrong. "Oops". Over 95% of "Got it Wrong" meant that the taxpayer owed tax. Only 5% were ever entitled to a refund.

I like your first paragraph Dave, causes me to think that perhaps the Singaporean's may have it right by paying their politicians very highly to get the brightest and the best....Perhaps worth a try..

Second paragraph, again human nature re grasping at straws to survive.
