So, still ecstatic, still have not driven anywhere with the hood up in three months of ownership

However, trundling back after today's 30+ miles around Beds country lanes, (with a foolish grin plastered across my face), I noticed that the hood stud, forrard left, closest to the door, designed (I presume) to prevent too much flapping with the hood down, was loose. That is, not actually the stud, but the screw to which it is attached had come out of its place in what I also presume is the wooden, fabric covered top bar. It's a self tapper, with a nipple on the top for the hood stud.
I thought I would beg for experienced advice - I'm tempted to fill the hole with a plastic wood derivative and then just screw it back in again (at present, I don't want to over-tighten it).

I've had a few come loose - I carry a box of matches in the car. Stick the match in the hole, snip off the head and it does the trick.

I do he match trick and add pva glue.

If needed lift the dot fasteners and matching studs (woodscrew and threaded) available here.

Not sure which hood you have, but are you referring to lift-a-dot type or tenax fastener?
As you are a newish owner, I just wondered if you have an easy-up hood and have put it down, without undoing the tenax. A sure way of breaking them off.
Please forgive if i am barking up the wrong tree!

Hello Deejay, I'm now slightly confused.
Having googled 'Tenax' & 'Lift the Dot' it seems they are pretty similar. There's what appears to be a Tenax upper fastener with a 'Lift the Dot' self tapper that goes into the car frame.
There's certainly no 'lift the dot' piece as part of the hood itself (that reminds me of the hood fastening from old MGBs).And no, I haven't yet raised or lowered the hood with anything fastened and hence broken, all the fastenings are intact, it's just that both of the self tappers are actually slightly loose in the woodwork - perhaps been over-tightened at some point.
I was thoroughly briefed when I took delivery of how to be very careful when raising / lowering - of course, that doesn't mean I won't screw up at some point

And thanks for the sale site, though none of the fasteners nor the hood seems damaged, just the self tapper slightly loose in the hole.
I shall report back, though it will all have to wait until I get back from Cyprus in a week's time.

Just so I understand, if you've never used the roof (easy up?) before, then the Tenex has never been used? So the screw came loose by itself without any external pulling force?

Heinz - I have raised & lowered the hood a couple of times just to check out how it worked, but definitely did not misuse any of the fasteners. I noticed the passenger side was flapping during the drive and on arriving home realised the self tapper had pulled clear of the woodwork, and that the driver's side was also loose (or at least, not possible to tighten fully).
The Tenax still held the self tapper, but the screw was clear of the woodwork.
I was warned repeatedly when I took delivery about how easy it was to raise or lower with a stud still fastened causing damage and I have not yet done that. (Yet)

Ben, my post wasn't about possible misuse. I really believe what you're saying, but I'm surprised that these screws can come loose on their own. Anything is possible. On my 2014 4/4, the three wood screws that hold the side window on the right door towards the front come loose every few months, but they always stay tight on the left side window. Just as another example.
