Some folks at Morgan-Kent have been wonderful recently in helping me obtain parts while my usual USA contact I use was on vacation. Tariffs were what I expected to be…about 15%. Well I just was informed by UPS that another small package with replacement windscreens valued at 157 BP was going to incur $452.90 tariff. I am going to attempt to refuse delivery and see where this goes.

As it stands it will certainly make maintaining it long term here in the USA difficult if NOT IMPOSSIBLE!

That tariff issue is a real concern.

Can UPS not give you a breakdown of how that tariff claim has been calculated thinking

If they are the aero screens it is easy to make your own, get some polycarbonate sheet use the old ones as a template cut out with a jig saw and polish the edges with wet and dry sand paper.

Email with Morgan-Kent verified the amount of purchase to be 157 GBP. Getting UPS to correct the mistake is going to be NO FUN, as they don’t make it easy to connect to a HUMAN. Looks like I’ll be doing just what Rog G suggests, which is what I had envisioned prior to seeing them available on Morgan-Kent’s website.

Will,

The tariff has obviously been calculated incorrectly. The new tariff on parts from the UK is 25%.Tariff is calculated on the FOB UK price and does not include postage. Someone can't operate a calculator.

I am in Intl. business all my life. Assume 157 sterling is FOB UK and todays exchange rate is approximately US 1.34 per pound the US dollar value is $210.38. At 25% that is $52.60 tariff. So total value should be $264.98. Little less if the 157 pounds included postage.

For years the US has had an $800.00 duty exemption on so called small packets. The Chinese learned how to totally abuse the system shipping hundreds of millions of dollars of garments, parts, etc. totally free under 70 year old postage exemptions. They established distribution centers mainly in the Los Angeles area re-stocking inventory via these small duty free packets. Unfortunately this has ruined it all for us hobbyists who only require a part from time to time.

While we import in multiple container loads direct to our industrial customers I have found some ports are easy to deal with and some are a pain. Same with the entry point for the PO. Feel for you.

So the end story to the $452.90 tariff of approx $208 of goods is…I get a bill demanding payment from UPS. Breakdown clearly shows a 10% tariff and then a 200% tariff and some other “conveinience” fee. If I don’t pay it then US Border/Customs will come after me. I go through hell to talk to a human on the phone number provided….40 minutes later I recite the bill to the agent and I get hung up on! So….

I PAID the bill. My fault for living in a failing democracy run by a demented narcissist. End of story.

If you are in the USA and order parts from the UK because you cannot get them through the few dealers here, ask them to handle duties and tariffs up front. The dealer in the case has assured me in the future they will do that for me. They have been so supportive I wish to mention them, Morgan Kent! Absolutely great lads there!

I just ordered some parts from Krazy Horse in the UK to ship here to Texas. They charged me the tarrif and shipping upfront, they shipped it on a Friday, and I received it on the following Tuesday. No fuss and no issues. Granted, I think my shipment was after the UK dealers have figured the best way to ship and didn't get caught up in the confusion from the first few days of all the de minimus exceptions being removed. I'm glad I waited a few weeks. Sorry you had such a crap experience.

I guess it depends on who you are purchasing from and how they deal with tariffs and shipping, I have bought a few products from the UK after the tariffs were introduced and have had no issues. On two occasions UPS contacted me saying I needed to pay the tariffs with a breakdown of the costs, one amounted to 8.8% and the other 9.6%, easy to do online and still cheaper than purchasing over here.
