Good morning, Just a little question: what heating system does the Plus 4 version from the 90s, specifically the 96, have? Does it have a fan? For example, my 2002 4/4, in addition to the tap on the box, has an electric control for the two-speed heating on the dashboard. I really appreciated this feature because it was very efficient, and it allowed me to use the car without the top even in the winter. (I keep the car open all year round.) Thanks

Hi Massi, firstly l have to say that Morgan were in the habit of changing all sorts of parts one year to the next so this info from a 93 +4 may not apply exactly. The heater on a 93 is a PVH, no longer in business unfortunately, it is the one illustrated in the Morgan parts book and is a narrow rectangular box with a two speed fan. It has a cable controlled water valve operated from under the steering column and a manual flow diverter knob in the passenger (rhd) footwell. Works well in an old fashioned way, not needed after driving some while as the heat from the engine takes over but useful for demisting windscreen in a short door car.

The heater in my 1980 +8 has also failed and I drive my car open all the year round as well. I started investigating options having just returned from a 4k kms jaunt to Italy I know Melvyn stocks a range of options www.melvyn-rutter.co.uk

Stephen, you may have a Smiths circular heater known as a Fug Stirrer, reproductions available from Holden around £600 + several different versions.

The old fug stirrer heater stems from pre-mid 70s. A 96 car will have similar to the 2002. My '93 4/4 and '97 +4 had similar heaters, with 2 speed switched fan. Both had similar heat adjustment with a Bowden cable to adjust the water flow valve.

My '66 Midget had a fug stirrer £12 extra. So did my '66 Land Rover, no doubt an extra when the original owner purchased it

My MGTf 1250 1954 also had a fug stirrer as did the previous TD so it’s getting on a bit.
