New to us but thought it worth making people aware to encourage regular checks. Forum search did mnot turn up anything.

Just before going to MoT/annual inspection it seems that both our lower front wishbones have similar cracks just outboard of the welds where to spring/shock unit connects. Not yet clear whether repairable or whether we need new wishbones. Won't know about this until they ore off/examined

Possible cause??

A "feature" of the welding of our early 2012 car?!

Loading?? .... most of our mileage (now >40k km) has been done two-up ... and a lot of that has been with luggage so we are operating at the higher end of expected GVW range.

Number of potholes on UK roads!

Anyone else had/seen this??

That's a real concern JMD

From memory, there was a very early change, probably mid-2012, to slightly stronger wishbones.
It doesn't help you very much, but there's a fair chance you have the earlier style. Others may be able to confirm.

Credit to the person who found the cracks and you for reporting it on here JMD. I suspect that your car got through the net for the replacement front wishbones following the very public failure on the Autocar track test in 2012. No recall was ever issued so no way of knowing if they were replaced or not. I don't know if there are any distinguishing features to identify what you have fitted, does anyone here?

I don't remember any similar problems with the front wishbones being mentioned on Talk Morgan before, so the later "upgraded" wishbones should all be OK but still worth a quick check.

Thanks for various comments ... sounds like we might be in the net for having "the early less good wishbones" mentioned ... our car was one of the earliest customer ones made ~Mar 2012 after the first run of demonstrators were made ...

As we are likely to end up with new ones, will see what differences (if any) there are between new/old

I'm still changing the early front wishbones on early EU cars and have been for a number of years - not due to cracks but more due to the banana shape they had become....

I think this MMC net was full of holes, bit like all the other MMC nets for chassis cracks etc etc....

There is no visual difference between the early/late wishbones.

Yes agree on the holy MMC net Steve ... and ... they also look a bit bent ....

Will do a weight comparison new vs old to see if they changed the tube guage....

The best bit in the Autocar article is

"Morgan has said it will supply new lower wishbones free to existing owners who want them. They will take an hour to fit, but Morgan insists it is not issuing a recall."

This only works if you know to ask....

As an interesting aside - Matt Prior of Autocar who was the unfortunate driver back in 2012 when the wishbone failed currently has a Super 3 on loan from MMC. He likes it!
