After introducing myself on Friday I got somewhat distracted by my Italian friend... Mr Chianti! So much so, I forget what my question was yesterday!

I've remembered today!

Now I appreciate traditionally many Morgan owners drive on the rev counter and not the speedo, which might explain the positioning of the speedo on a Roadster.

Unfortunately for me, given my recently acquired extra BHP, and 3 point endorsement on my licence, I really need to know how fast I'm travelling!

Anybody using a GPS speedo in front of the on the dash? Any recommendations?

Having the wife in the passenger seat constantly telling you you are speeding is NOT a 'recommendation'!

If you have a mount for your phone, there are plenty of excellent standalone GPS speedometers in app form.

Or, again, phone based, both WAZE and Google Maps have inbuilt GPS speedometers, as well as informing you of the local speed limit.

If you’d like small, standalone, and the ability to use navigation, some members have used Beeline Moto II

Another option is Road Angel, which is more of a speedometer with speed camera detector inbuilt.

Lastly, working on the same principle as the mobile phone apps, you can get digital gps speedometers, just look on eBay, Amazon, etc. They are similar and it will boil down to one you like the look of and size.

I like the dash cam /speedometer option.... two in one so to speak! Next Base do one which is nice and compact. When it fires up it shows a picture on the camera but after a couple of minutes it switches to a digital sat speedometer. Not all the Next Base dash cams do it though so check if you go with this brand.

I use the Sygic app for navigation, and it also has another view for use as a HUD or just a large speedometer:

- you can customise which items are shown on the display.

Tykester, you can use a USB powered GPS digital readout head up display readily available on eBay such as this one. An alternative is similar readout powered by CANBUS accessed via OBD2 diagnostics plug. Likely more expensive but perfectly mimicking the main speedo instrument which always underreads by 5% or so giving you a safety margin

Thanks for all the tips.

I've had a good look at the cheap and cheerful dignital GPS devices on Ebay. Charging them with a USB is probably not much more convenient that having my phone charging via the 12v socket.

i've managed to get my excellet Wye phone cradle in a decent HUD-esque position and my phone sideways.

I'm going to try WAZE for combined route planning with mini-speedo plus traffic camera warnings and, for known routes where I just want a normal lookinig speedo, I'm going to try Speedometer Simple (free app, but with ads presumably) for the time being.

Thanks everyone!
