So I have heard that it is not possible to fit a trailer to a trad, but then saw this 2011 +4 advertised for sale here in Sweden https://www.blocket.se/annons/1402506867, with the following picture included in the advert. I was a bit impressed!

I don't know if that's legal in Sweden but certainly not in UK also MMC handbook says DO NOT TOW TRAILERS OR VEHICLES.

Burgundymog ... has that always been the case though? ... I seem to remember earlier trads being able to tow (though not massive trailers! 🙂)

Two areas - Car builr after August 1998 have to have a vehicle specific EC approved tow bar, Before that, there are no regs and you can create your own tow bar fitting.

Then there's 'train weight' - if your VIN does not have a train weight, techincally you can't tow with it. I think they became legal around 1986 so before that is a bit of a grey area.

Phil ... pre-vin was what I was thinking of regarding 'older' trads .... just recalling I'd seen old pics of trads towing stuff and even possibly seeing some factory info on towing ... though I may be mistaken on the last bit. I'm sure those more versed in Morgan Lore will put me right! 🙂

There is a longstanding Yorkshire based early Plus 8 owner who tows a small caravan

If the vehicle is registered before 1986 you can tow a trailer, if it's registered after 1986 it must have a Train weight on the VIN plate this will be the MAM allowed (total weight of vehicle and trailer). If you exceed the MAM you could be reported for driving a vehicle in dangerous condition and won't be allowed to continue the journey with trailer attached.

My MG Tc from my turning 20 yo. I cut up an old bedstead for the angle iron and fabricated a tow bar that bolted onto the chasis. Here shown with a sailing dinghy attached. Used to attend dingy races all over the place.
