Back in the day................. the cars used to have a metal box under the bonnet to put tools and the jack etc in........

I've been looking for some sort of metal, or possibly wooden box to put under the bonnet to store all the bits that were in the crap tool tray under the rear panel.
I keep the jack and a hammer under the spare wheel so it doesn't have to be huge....... screwdrivers, fuses, bulbs etc etc are my plan......

I thought I might stick it with double sided tape or mega velcro to the panel, drivers side, not too close to the air intake.

So...... the question is....................

Does anyone know of a suitable box to put a few bits in, that will work for what I want to achieve..............???????

Or...........have you done it.......?????

Julian, Kevin, the chap who rebuilt that which was his perfect Morgan, fitted just such a tool box on the bulkhead of what is now my mid 80`s +8, I am sure I posted pics of it on here previously, might have even sent you some in times past...? I guess there may be less bulkhead free space available under the bonnets of more modern Morgans..? Happy to seek out and re-post a pic of the additional Trad tool box fitted to my old Mog if interested..?

Julian, I don't know what year your trad is ?

Do you have unused space where the later cars have a big fusebox ? if so order a replacement off MMC and fit that, it gives lots of storage space

Or a footwell locker ?

I use a “Shell Oil Company”zip up pouch that came free with a litre of oil some time ago. Don't know if they are still available. It is attached with two strips of sticky back velcro just by the air intake on my plus 4. It has stayed put and dry for several years.
Just looked at Opie oils where mine came from, but no longer advertised.
However, if you search Amazon for “zipped tool case”, there are a number of small ones available that would fit the bill. Better than metal due to less chance of rattling.

I think this is another case of great minds thinking alike, in my search for the same I keep returning the Japanese made steel boxes from Toyo, they offer a big range of different designs and sizes in many different colours.

In my humble opinion they're all vintage design classics, but someting in silver would likely sit well on the stainless bulkhead, or in my case on top of the ECU cover. I need to measure up , but a T320 or possibly the larger T360 might do it?





Do also let us know of any alternative boxes you've looked at?

The Toyo box looks perfect Dave.
I'm going to have a measure up but I think a T190 will work for what I want.

Or use a tool tray putting the extra weight at the rear and allowing more storage space.

My goal is to get anything of any use out of the rear tool tray.
Sod’s Law, when you do need any ‘tools’, you’ve got bags in the back on the parcel shelf, the hood up, a passenger and it’s raining.
Stripping half the car apart is……. inconvenient……🤷🏼‍♂️

Cool Julian, I own this Toyo Y-350 tool box for general use (not in the car) and it's great quality.



For Monty, I went with the tool tray delete as I just couldnt get on with the damn thing, I then put the jack in the free space in Monty's tail under the spare, with all my tools living in a Leven foot locker I bought used from the Talk Morgan 'for sale' page.

While were talking tools, that just leaves my big 3lb Sealey dead blow hammer that slides handle first under the passenger seat. I find a 3lb dead blow hamner the perfect replacement for the original equipment small aluminium faced Thor hammer that's way too lightweight for serious wheel tightening duties.

Being nylon coated it's safer to use around my black powder coated wires, and nothing gives a more positive strike than a nice weighty dead blow hammer

As I said before, all the Toyo boxes are funtional design clasics so I'd still like one fixed on Monty's bulkhead, it needs to be very secure but easy to remove, I feel a couple of nice leather straps would look apropriate.

There was a company which make toolboxes for to fit in the valance under the sparewheel.

Very simple style, I think also an idea for a DIY.
