So among the many broadminded people of the forum is there any experience of the AMG GT family.

The GT alone looks lightly mental.
The GT-S has some extra loony applied.
The GT-R appears to have added odd things which will never be useful on a public road but make me excited.

There are some above this but I am trying to remain at least close to being adjacent, at least a little bit?

Has anyone experience of these things they can share?
(not the new current model, the older more evil models)

I had a C63 AMG which has the same powertrain - and it had an impressive combination of power and noise - and actually if you are stuck on British motorways used to do 32ish mpg.

I’ve always viewed the AMG GT as the spiritual successor to the Aero Coupe.

An AMG GT Roadster would be on my list of cars to own at some point in the not too distant future.

I've had some experience with the engine, albeit not in the GT body.

I've driven a GT and it felt more akin to an American muscle car than a Germanic sports car. From speaking with owners and reading reviews, for road use and all around appeal, the 'C' version seems the ideal package; however, the price point of the standard GT makes them look more and more appealing. The R is a superb looking vehicle but I think the set-up would grow tiring on our roads.

With that said, and without my rose-tinted Morgan Aero specs on, having spent 4-hours in convoy with one a few weeks back, I couldn't help but feel the looks were a little too 'every-car' and I wish they'd continued the SLS design language to distance it from other Mercedes and sports cars as a whole.

A friend of mine got one after retirement. It is a GT-S in red - nice machine and hi feelings about it are known to some out here as he was born in Affalterbach near AMG.
It is definitely not cheap and prblem free to run but still puts a big smile in his face after a couple of years...

Six years ago, my children gave me a weekend with a GTC roadster for my 60th birthday, which was very good in terms of suspension. Recently, there was a video about the AMG GT by Jay Emm. The comments were interesting. It turned out that most people, they were obviously owners, preferred the GTC in terms of suspension and adjustment. The AMG GTC was not only available as a convertible but also as a coupe. I like the shape. Today's successor, on the other hand, looks like a fat jellyfish and is actually a sedate SL.

The AMG GT is a fabulous car, although it tramlines much like the Aston it shares the platform with and pre 2020 the stereo leaves a lot to be desired. Sweet spot is a night edition roadster 2020, can be had for around 100k. A stunning car and one I would take any day.

About 6 months ago I decided that driving around in a Renault Megane RS really wasn’t right for a man of my calibre

So I sold it together with my treasured V12 Vantage Manual and set out looking for an early car to basically use as a daily, rag it around and just enjoy driving something sweet every day.

I found one at an MB Dealer. At 2017 GTS with 38k miles. It meant it came with full Mercedes history and a two year warranty.

At this stage, I should note that I also own an SLS which I’ve had for 13 years.

The GTS is by no means comparable to the SLS to my mind but it is nevertheless a superb car. It’s relatively low on maintenance cost too.

It emits the most incredible noise from its tailpipes, crackles and pops on over run in sport and sport plus. The gearbox is razor sharp with a very quick change. Suspension is fully adjustable, but I do tend to drive it in the softest mode which some would say is still quite firm but it suits the car..

All in all, 6 months and I am extremely happy with it, does everything you’d expect it to do with major grin factor.

Having done a bit of homework before hand, it seemed there were very few issues with these cars mechanically

Simon - thank you. My screen based research so far is looking at being a facelift 2020 GTC, possibly a Roadster so I can be deafened like the Aero's.

The SLS is a stunner but they have a few years and ultra low volume on them now plus the budget means it would be a roadster. I actually like the Roadster SLS but the running costs for use as a daily might be a bit off. I think the money spent on the SLS Roadster would be better spent on a GTC for me. I have seen one (online) Night Edition which also looks interesting.

My GTS is a Coupe. I’m not a big Convertible fan, hence my Aero usually has the roof up.

Yes I’m a hoarder though I have sold off quite a few over recent years. The collection now stands at about 13 I think plus motorcycles.

Coincidentally my nipper is currently looking to purchase an SLS roadster. IIRC only circa 70 were sold in the UK

The issue with the SLS is that they’ve become a bit mileage sensitive. Not a problem if it’s for high days and dry days. If it is for occasional use then that’s where my money would be. They’ll probably edge up in value as opposed to depreciate as the track the values of the coupe.
