Hi folks!

Could anyone tell me which manufacturer produces the gearbox for the current 4/4?
I have searched the forum, but was not lucky enough...
(Or just too stupid to use this grey flat box with the white half-rotten apple on top correctly... )
If this has been discussed here already, I apologise for the disturbance.

The MMC website has it as the Mazda 5-speed box.

Damn it! Why didn't I find that info before.
Getting old or getting BSE.

There is a 5 speed Mazda gearbox in my +4SS.

At the Classic Car show in November, the guys on the Morgan stand said that all the Plus 4's had the MX5 5 speed box and they were just changing the 4/4 to the MX5 box.

So both cars will have MX5 boxes by now.

The latest 4/4s have the Mazda MX5 gearbox (photographed at the factory last weekend)



As you can see, its is a bit more integrated than the previous 4/4 gearbox which is the Ford MT75, particularly around the gear change extension mechanism. The speedo pickup must also be integrated into the Mazda gearbox as well rather than the external sensor ring etc you can see on the output flange of the earlier gearbox.

Sorry to say cerealsurfer, but there is no fettling planned with the gearbox.
I would not dare to do that to my new Morgan (or even any other car!)
If anyone ever sees me with a spanner in my hand, RUN!

The reason I asked is that I bet on a Mazda MX5 gearbox. Mazda is correct, but I'm pretty sure now it isn't from the MX5. Seems I have to buy my neighbor some pints...

Are we sure it's an "MX5 gearbox" and not an "MX 5-speed"?

I'm just curious, because on the threewheeler they write "MX 5-speed"?

Am I missing something?
