I like the QuadLock system, use it myself. But indeed I'm afraid it's too far back ánd down. How to get it more up and central? How do you work away the charing cable? There are QuadLock Heads with an induction charging option.

I attached my quadlock on the dash, to the right of the steering wheel, just below the dash roll. I chose the induction charging version and ran a charging cable out of sight down to the OBD port. I also have a small Garmin dash cam, and both are powered from a Garmin OBD / USB plug in dongle.

I didn't know you could use the OBD port to power equipment, that's good news ☺️

It's not the cheapest, but the Garmin 'constant power cable' can be configured to provide power for a period after the ignition is off: 10 minutes, 24 hours or always on. The last one of course will steadily drain the battery, but the Garmin shuts off if the voltage drops to 12v.

I went a slightly different route! My clock in the centre of the dash had a small scratch on the plastic face that bugged me somewhat. I decided to mount my phone there as it also gave some protection from glare cause by driving with the occasional sun here in England with the top down.
(Incidentally, I also added a cheap CarPlay screen from TikTok shop or the like, it was brilliant until the roof was down! Even on a cloudy day, it was impossible to see the screen - the iPhones brightness is so much better and I’ve not had any issues to date. The large clock face is also nice to see when not using maps etc. The phone can be spun to portrait mode too and the screen is more than usable to see any music playlists etc.

So far it’s worked out really well and as on a ball joint, I can angle the phone slightly to give me a clearer view of google maps etc. and still see the rev counter and speedo ok, additionally the speed is also on the digital display directly in front of me too.

Parts used were from Amazon and attached to the clock face using a silicone adhesive. Fanaue make some really good camera/video fixings for the professional market and the quality is superb. 18 months on and it’s still holding firm. Right angled usb connector plugged into one of the available usb a sockets in the passenger footwell, a usb a to usb c cable was then run up and behind the dashboard to the wireless MagSafe charger. This was the big issue for me, as I hate plugging in/unplugging the phone every time I get in or out, MagSafe is so easy and it’s not fallen off yet!
