Hey guys, I am attempting to remove the spare tire at the back of my plus 8. I’ve done a search but I find nothing that refers to process.
I’ve removed the bolt holding the luggage rack and the spare tire and then removed the luggage rack. No problem. Next I have attempted to remove the cover on the spare tire. I can see no obvious way to remove it. The cover is tight around the tire and I see no way to loosen it. The lamp at the top is keeping the tire and cover from coming out.
My guess is that the cobra brake light is not adjusted correctly hence too tight. It is fixed in position by 4 wood screws through elongated slots, so its height can be altered once the spare is removed. If you have removed the rack and pulled out the centre T bolt, try pulling the tire down & lifting the bottom 6 o’clock position. You should then be able to lift out the spare by moving it further downward and out. Good luck.
Thanks IcePack. I tried gently pulling the tire down but it didn’t seem to want to budge. I was afraid I might break something. I’ll try tomorrow using a little more force. Nestor I tried posting a photo but not sure it worked. Having trouble with iCloud. Richard
If the wheel has not been removed for a long time, it tends to get a bit stuck. Try wriggling it as you move the lower end of the wheel slightly downwards and towards you. Cover the lower edge of the hole for the wheel with a towel or the like to protect the paintwork/bodywork when you pull out.

Try pulling tyre down whilst lifting up at the back to clear aperture. Then wiggle tyre free at the top and lift out from bottom. The optional cover is making tyre a tighter fit than normal. A third hand gently pushing cobra away from tyre may help.

The wheel does look a bit tight from top to bottom. If it is stuck then move it left to right to unstick it. Then , as above, lift the bottom as you drop the wheel down and remove it. Then adjust the Cobra light upwards by loosening the securing nuts ( I think they may be 10mm Hex).
The metal plate behind the spare is normally coated in black underseal. It might feel stuck as the cover is stuck to the tar like underseal & needs a bit of a pull. Normally with wires that is easy as you pull on the wires here with a cover I guess gripping it isn't easy.
