Glad to see lots of you still here - haven't posted in a couple of years! I am revving up (I think) to trade my lovely 2005 Roadster for a Plus Four & wanted to get some advice about model years.. There seems to be some thoughts that everything got better after 2022.. or is that just er.. fake news! And I am confused about whether the model is being discontinued and the offer on the website which seems er meaningless?! Anyhow also dithering manual versus auto (most likely a ton of info about this).. Dealers are offering me £25k/£26k trade-in which seems a bit mean. Full SSL front and back. Hey Ho.. Happy New Year (bit late..).

A lot depends on your priorities. More recent cars have airbags which may be important to you - as far as I know, airbags will stop you fitting a smarter steering wheel though.

I doubt the Plus Four is an endangered species, that’s what feeds the US market.

You’ll get split opinions on manual vs auto. Try them both and go with your heart. Most CX coming out of Malvern are auto, but you don’t need to follow the herd if you prefer a manual. Both are good.

Airbags, ESC and, I believe, improved brakes came with the MY23 cars. Later changes are more aesthetic, such as bring in the front lights all within the main nacelles, and the rear lights all combined. The airbags do, currently, prevent the fitting of aftermarket steering wheels, but rumour has it that Motolita are developing a boss with an airbag which would facilitate the fitting of one of their wheels.

Oliver, your trade-in offer considering the current market looks about right, the dealer may well be stuck trying to sell it at £29 - 30k for over 6 months and has to service, valet, touch-up, MOT and put some warranty on it

The pre MY23 CX has IMHO a more traditional dash board and not having airbags allows the fitment of a wood steering wheel. I've always enjoyed the trad style dash with lots of polished wood, and for me, its what you are looking at all the time when you are sitting in the car, so it needs to work for you.This is my cockpit and the steering wheel and especially the auto gear lever, seem less noticable and blend more into the background. After years of driving trads.it just makes me feel more at ease and at home , its so in keeping with body styling




Certainly, in the recent wetter and slippy roads, I felt the backend slid a little without much provocation, it still has it's original Avons (which aren't the best), so better tyres may help, but I.m sure that traction control maybe of more benefit, than I first thought on the MY23 and later cars. The music setup I'm finding a bit of a pfaff, but I might have found a solution by having a small blue tooth MP3 player in the car all the time. The comfort plus seats are a boon and the ride of a CX is really compliant and it feels a much lighter car than my later trads. The extra torque of the auto can certainly be felt, and the car moves when asked with relative ease and really economical to boot ..

I really enjoy the CX, I wouldn't go back to a trad, it's so much easier to live with and drive on a day to day basis/ I've had some great times in my trads, but as age catches up with you, I'm sure I will have as much fun in the CX requiring much less effort and not having to think about grease guns on long trips is something I will not miss. . Just simple things like the location of the handbrake means you are not having to stretch and bend forward , balancing the clutch especially on a hill, whilst trying to release the fly off handbrake, in the CX the handbrake is just there by your side, so much easier, especially in an auto.

They are not perfect, they are still very much a Morgan, and just as enjoyable if not more so.

I think we fully agree John, we only added the central armrest with a little storage space, concerning the roadholding and lack of ESP, the Nitron upgrade was a huge improvement. Still have the original Avons too!

Thanks for that, I'll have to start saving my pennies up and get the nitron rear suspension. I like that arm rest, how far back does it go into the rear parcel shelf, do you lose much space?

John, Allon White do a good 'replica' of the Morgan Park arm rest, cheaper than getting one from MP as well, though still very expensive IMHO.

I was thinking of having one, but they didn't have the leather in stock and needed to 'quote separately'. I went off in a different direction and now have a couple of saddle bags attached to the seat fore/aft adjustment lever (Saddlebag).

NIce idea and solution, do you have a picture of the saddlebags in situ, do they get in the way of the seat adjustment?
