Have had this 1988 4/4, wide aluminum body, for about 10 years now, finally all well sorted. Runs just fine, lot of performance when I ask for it.

Now I am looking into several odd details about this car and wondering if there is some common ground with other owners, Herewith my list:
1. VIN SA904/4000MM004008 was printed on hundreds of Morgan VIN plates in the 80s & 90s, Do you have one?
2. My car has dual brake servos, front & rear, I have heard of this on a few Plus 8 cars but never a 4/4, Why did Morgan do this?
3. Dual petrol filler caps, I have heard this was for a rally car that could be refueled from either side. I have also heard this is to eliminate air bubbles when refueling.

As I am only the third owner and the previous two owners were elderly gents(one has passed and the other made no modifications). I can only guess these modification either came from the factory or were installed by the first owner. The second owner received the car with only 3800 miles on the clock, it had been parked for a long while, but I do not know how long.. Morgan factory chassis record give no insight here.

Not sure if yours would still have the chassis number stamped into the crossmember behind the front seat (driver's side on a UK side car) .. this might lead to some more info?

I'm not that clued up on later cars (mine's a '75) ... but are you saying they used the same vin number for numerous cars? ... well, that's not going to be at all confusing going forward!! 😆

Dual brake servos is a new one on me ... we live and learn .... good luck tracking down info on your car.

K

Yes, This number was used as a sample, then got sent to the contractor to reproduce. The respoonse I got from Morgan was that there were hundreds printed. I have found two cars listed in the Morgan Registery. Yes, my car had the Morgan chassis number stamped on the crossmember as well as on the VIN tag.
I didn't discover it until it was kicked back by my insurance carrier. I forward the letter from Morgan and they are OK now with just the chassis number.

The 4/4 only had a servo fitted from 1991 onwards. In my 1990 4/4 4-seater I had it retrofitted in 2014, at the same time with an upgrade with Hi Spec dual twin calipers front brakes. Never heard of a 4/4 with twin filler caps.

If this was always a US car, the twin servos may have been added as a requirement for import

I now see it's an US car, so that could indeed well be the case! Thanks for your remark! thumbs

Well, here's another, my 1982 4/4 Twin Cam had a pair fitted, it was also one of the first Morgans to have the frame treated with preservative

The beauty of Morgan is that you can never say....."they never did that". Because they usually did. grin2
