I’d be grateful if anybody could advise where the wiring for the electric window heating attaches to the window, please. I have a 1999 4/4 4 seater and in the rain water drips from the bottom of the centre of the dashboard. Immediately above it on the outside of the window is some blue wiring tucked into the rubber seal but which breaks the bottom of the seal with the bodywork. Logic suggests that this may be the source of the leak. I don’t know whether this is factory fitted wiring or a later edition to power something that’s no longer fitted.

All I can offer is this behind dash image from a much newer Roadster, although likely similar.



The blue and black wires (centre image) running down from the screen heating elements can be seen attached to green/orange and black wires of main loom via bullet connectors.

Mark, the electrics attach to the windscreen through the frame at the bottom, right in the centre. On Richards picture the blue and black wire are from the screen and are connected to different colours with bullet connectors in the loom. the screen wires should be routed through holes made in the lower screen seal. They then track under the dash rubber bumper , covered in trim leather, and through a hole in the front scuttle where they then enter the below scuttle area. Now unfortunately if any water enters the lower screen seal at any point, usually from the outer ends of the screen seal, it can track along the inside and enter the car below the scuttle through the screen wire hole.... this is something you really do not want as the electrics are very very vulnerable to damage from water and the PCB incorporated in the cluster is fragile and now unavailable!
If you search my posts I have written a scree on replacing the lower screen seal which will help you see it more clearly should you need to go to that extent PM me an email address and I can send you some clarifying pictures of how I achieved this. Check also the washer hoses and connectors are patent as water can splash everywhere if not and if you have black tubing and connectors change the whole lot out while you are there as these are absolute rubbish! You will see again on Richard's pic the cleat tube replacement. Lastly it's not impossible for the heater rad to leak either at a hose connection or from a matrix fault.. smell the area or water drops to identify if its coolant.

Yes those wires are for the electric screen. Dash off to get them & be careful if uyou remove the screen the bolts on the A pillars are different lengths. Get them worng & you break the glass.
Whilst the dash is off replace the screen wash tubing & T piece with good stuff from a pet shop i.e .aquarium supplies

Yes the A pillar to screen screws are different in length. The bottom of the three each side is slightly longer and as John correctly said if fitted into the top two positions it can contact the glass edge which is the most vulnerable place to damage the glass. They also have a habit of loosening so should be a regular check for you. Don't use loctite as the screws can easily shear if locked up too tight. If you get a persistently loosening screw use a dab of Hylomar blue as it doesn't full harden but does keep the screw located.

Thanks everybody for the advice. Had the screen off this morning and rectified up the wiring. The seal sits flat in the bodywork now.
