Bit of advice please - I want to change the number plates on my 22 Plus Four and find that the plates fixed when the car was first registered are glued on. The rear plate is fixed flat to the body but the front plate is curved to fit the line of the body and I wondered if anyone has recent experience of changing them over. I've fixed glued plates before on other cars but they were all on a flat surface but I'm a bit twitchy about whether the glue or the adhesive pads from Halfords would be strong enough to counter the 'bend'. Has anyone drilled a new plate onto the front of a newish Plus Four?

I bought ‘metal’ plates and gave them a slight bend which, together with using a couple of extra adhesive strips (2 at each end, 2 either side of centre) fixed it nicely.

My 21 CX plus four has the number plates affixed with a self tapper screw at each end no problem

The plastic (Perspex) type of plates can be bent by a surprising amount without damage, I break old plates up before binning & you have to score them to induce a crack
The secret with the sticky bud fixings is to warm them and the substrate with a hot air gun as you apply to get a really good bond

Thank you for the advice. Sounds like I can’t do too much harm which ever way I do it.

I hope they weren't glued on! That would be a first for me but these days nothing surprises me when it comes to dealer prep.
Plastic trim removal tools are useful to remove stuck on plates, and cheap on eBay / and online shops, as long as double sided tape (or pads / strips) have been used. Having just removed a set, held on by double sided tape, I lucked out and one came off with ease, leaving nothing behind but the rear left most of the tape on the vehicle. I soaked the old tape in Goo Gone and after a few minutes, used a plastic edge to remove it. It took time but I worked at it and got it all off.
The new plates were fitted using Wurth adhesive mirror tape, which I've recommended on here before, and the front was on a curves surface. I've never lost a plate on any car and that includes metal plates on curved surfaces, as well as standard acrylic plates.

Fishing line can help to cut through the sticky pads.

^^^^^^^^^^ The cheesewire effect is good. Use a decent strength line and don't rush. Use a thin wedge to prevent the plate springing back and re-sticking!
