I would agree with Simon. As the keeper of the Aero you will have the task of maintaining it for the next owner etc. It IS worth every penny. Most things that can generate a smile like this suffer from a horrific tax penalty, legal restrictions, medical risks or worse.

I have a similar car to the one you describe, S2 2005. I bought it two years ago with 12,000 miles and it had clearly not be used regularly. If the car has not been driven and therefore not maintained for this period of time you expect it to need some recovery to bring it up to date. I say that without meaning to cast doubt on the vendor. Anyone selling Morgans in the US deserves a medal, respect and support for their dedication.

The list of things that went wrong on mine.

The rubber corners which provides the seal at either end of the roof/windscreen can deform and are important, make certain they have no perish marks given your climate. (£50 fitted per side)

The clamps that hold the roof closed need to clip and snap smoothly in one go. They are easy to replace but probably need doing. (£100 fitted per side)

Has the steering pump been replaced yet, they do go. (£400)

If the Air-Con has not been used then it will have run out of refrigerant gas which is also a lubricant and to the pump may seize. Run it well and whilst it may not be full US spec it should do more than whisper a teeny breeze with the lid up. (£2000 for all bits plus fitting)

The car is strong, gearbox, engine and other elements are great. You will however find things like the doors require adjustment and you should not lean on them getting in an out.

If the windows do not go fully up then it just needs a reset.

Do check the tyre pressure sensor system. Mine has worked a treat and never failed however it does need to be setup by someone who knows the details (Thank you Millers).

Pull the seats fully forward and look for mould on the carpets in the corners and this will tell you if it has been leaking and not cared for. (Please excuse my lack of knowledge on your climate in Washington) Look for watermarks in the inner roof lining as this will also show if the roof is well aligned.

If the main headlamps don't work on dipped then make them get them both working on dipped and main beam as it is not just a bulb in many cases.

Whilst the car is made of Aluminium you do get corrosion. The two front indicators should have rubber gaskets around them. The rear lights can be water traps so look around them for paint bubbles.

Every single one of these can be fixed. 1000 miles in the car will make every penny worth it. I have not regretted a single penny spent (okay thats not 100% true but it is darn close)

At first I felt a little embarrassed when people looked at my car but then I realised they were only looking at the car and I was invisible. I got over it quickly. I still love the smiles I see as it passes.
