today a question of understanding. Around 2020/22 I had a longer test drive with a plus four. I had the feeling that I was sitting quite comfortably in the car. Since then, the idea of ​​switching from my trad to a new car has come up again and again. Especially because I don't really trust the gdi engine.
Now I sat in a current model this week and I have to say it was very disappointing. I'm not the smallest (approx. 6.3f), but what's the point of this canopy construction? The shoulder is trapped and the left arm doesn't have enough space because of this terribly thick door. Has anything changed here in the last few years? In any case, I feel like I sit much better in my +4.

I have the same idea, and the same problem. Also, think about switching to a Plus Four.
Although I am very happy with my +4 Duratec. But we are not getting Younger, and an auto is a lot easier in today's busy traffic.
I'm not that big, 1.84 (6.04) but I'm also sitting with my shoulder against the roof freem, and it mainly hinders when getting out.

I’m spoiled because I have a Plus Six, and that has a little more width, however I did borrow the MMC MY24 Plus Four when my Mog was in for service last year, and I had no issues with the hood mechanism interfering with my shoulder. I certainly preferred my Six for comfort, but I thought I could happily live with a Four.

It doesn't bother me I have to say.I have 2022 P4

I'm 6'2" broad framed and drive a MY22 automatic, with the hood up,, the hood frame is not an issue at all. When I have the hood down all I do is pull the seat slightly further forward and adjust the seat rake so the hood frame is not an issue. Being an automatic there's plenty of room for my left foot with the seat just slightly further forward. When I first sat in the P4 in the showroom I was very aware of the hood frame,so much so I wasn't going to buy one, but in everyday use with the slight change to my driving position it's not an issue at all, I'm not aware of the hood frame rubbing my shoulder with my seat adjusted accordingly.

WIth the wider side screens whilst it initially feels more snug, you can rest you arm on the recess /rebate on the top of the door more than in a trad, where you usually find a gale blowing thru the gap between the top of the door and the side screen, especially chilly on colder or wet days in a trad.So often in a trad you find you keep your arm away from the top of the door and well inside the cockpit making it actually more cramped to drive than in a CX in the cold or wet.

WIthout question the CX better seating, especially comfort seating and the more compliant ride make the CX a much more comfortable less jarring place to be, the foot well isn't (especially in the auto) as cramped as a trad and you can find a more relaxing position on longer journeys.. WIthout question the CX can eat up the miles with absolutely ease, it's lighter controls, power steering etc, requires less input and effort and makes it a really nice place to be,.plus it can go quickly when you want it to, and is amazingly economical to drive for the performance available.

Generally, the hood and side screens fit better than a trad, you still get air gaps that need sorting out (if not already done so) my CX is my daily driver and after having had 5 trads., it suits my needs much better, is a more capable and relaxing car to drive, bloody quick too boot and covers the miles with ease. I wouldn't go back to a trad, I enjoyed them in short blasts and for shorter journeys etc., but for touring with my size of frame, a CX is the only way forward. When I collected my CX I spent over 6 hours getting it home, with wet wild winds (last November) for 3/4 hours of the journey and it coped with ease, I got out quite refreshed having enjoyed the experience, I doubt I would have enjoyed it as much in a trad, I would have been battling with front of the side screens popping out at motorway speed s and the rain pouring in and so on, crap headlights etc.....no fun at all by comparison.

The CX isn't by any means perfect, but it's a step change for the better, a more refined and capable car and can be immense fun.I don't regret having had any of my trads, but I find having had trads, I can appreciate and understand far more the improvements Morgan have made with the CX. If you are considering or worried that an automatic might dilute the driving experience , I wouldn't be too concerned at my age and with the local area density of traffic I experience. the automatic is a 'boon' and really enjoyable to drive compared with hours of continuous heavy clutch dipping I would have normally have experienced in a trad.

I've had the CX about 3 months now didn't, use it much over Christmas and January due to salt on the roads and I have put 1400 miles on the car, come spring I can see that going up substantially especially compared to my trad usage. The only thing I would change as it's a daily driver, is the impractical wire wheels, I would go for alloys in everyday use, but the garage floor and toothbrushes are my new found friends.

My specs are about the same as JohnHarris's. When I first sat in the CX +four the hood frame interfered with my shoulder and I thought it would be a non-starter, but when I took it for a drive that issue just seemed to disappear. Ended up with a trad anyway as a matter of preference.

tommog, may I ask your concerns about the GDI engine?

As a super fat man I find it fine. I'm more worried about getting in & out with knackered knees

With my 6"05" I have no issues in my PlusFour. It's not my daily driver but we travelled a lot in it, mostly with the hood down, but also dayslong hood down. We have no issues with shoulders against the hood frame. Of course you will have more space laterally in a PlusSix, but with our postures not necessary. Apart of that, we prefer the more classic looks of the PlusFour. Having driven a trad 4/4 for 30 years, I can also confirm that the ride is so much more smooth and easy in a CX-platform Morgan. We have the ComfortPlus seats.
