Has anyone (successfully) removed the Avonwood immobiliser as fitted to circa 2015 cars?
I can see the unit behind the dash but am worried to progress, the key transponder through the steering column surround is temperamental and I can do with out it to be honest
Many thanks

Just have a look at daveW first, a post he did in order to make the mobiliser ring more effective in functionality.

You may have issues with your insurer if you remove or disable an immobiliser that was a standard factory fit as it forms part of the assessment used to give it's insurance group number

I think it's part of the Thatcham rating

If the company responible is Avonwood Develoments, has any GDI owner contacted them directly to discuss the issue? A UK company with in-house R&D and with through life support on their RFID systems, including service and repair. It might throw some light on the nature of the problem and maybe even a remedy for this frustrating feature.

I must say that the Ford RFID system on the earlier Duratec cars with its combined immobilser and ECU appears quite reliable. It's the only electronics on my car I trust, despite having multiple sets of spares for when that day eventually comes.... smile
