Really like a moggy ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2026/03/17/IMG_1868.md.jpeg) Needs a bit of fettling but won’t take too long As kid my father used to have one in the early sixties! Good memories! We crossed Europe with it with 3 children in the back and an Alpenkreuzer behind it. The Alps were a bit difficult......!

I also have great memories in one of these, albeit mine was in Wales, bombing down little country lanes, whilst my Great Uncle piloted it, pipe in hand, the smell of pipe smoke constantly in the air - despite the window being ajar, and somehow the windows always seeming as misty as the weather outside!

My first car was one of those. A dark green one and all of 1097cc I recall.
Had some great adventures with this car until it could give no more.
Still have the bonnet badge on the garage wall.

Just goes to show how much you can do to improve a ‘new to me’ car that seemed great at the time of purchase. Here’s what’s been done in the last few days.
The blowing exhaust has been removed and correctly refitted and now doesn’t blow
The listing suspension as been rectified much more easily than anticipated.
The pulling brakes sorted with new shoes, the old ones were contaminated with excess hub bearing grease.
The dim head lights were traced to a faulty earth and sidelights both now working
Axle and gearbox oils changed
Fit new air filter, plugs and check mixture
Drivers seat webbing replaced with new diaphragm
Petrol leak into carb sorted and carb exterior cleaned of grease and debris
Indicator fault traced to faulty relay, stalk bulb replaced and broken lens on order.
Ignition light not working traced to broken wire and sorted.
Couple more simple jobs to do and then it can be enjoyed and visually improved gradually. - fit inertia seatbelt on passenger side - grease the front suspension - reset the tappets - sort out the cable tied parcel shelf
2012 Plus 4 in Sport Green. Much comfier than the Plus 8!

I love that first stage with a 'new car' (or bike). Lots of quick easy wins that make a vast difference. Not a big fan of bodywork stuff.
According to SWMBO I have to wait till my debts are cleared before I buy another bike (probably late 70's, early 80's Sportster) but April is approaching rapidly and we have a habit of having 'F*ck It April' as we call it, when we spend stupid money on stupid stuff, so fingers crossed......

No I don’t like bodywork as it’s so noisy and dirty. Done it in the past but never again. Mind you the paint on this isn’t as good as the pic makes it seem so I’ll be doing a deep machine polish at least.
