With all the interesting feedback I've received, I've realized there are indeed design flaws in this project; the vibration issue is a major concern. If I keep the same rearview mirror shape, I'm thinking of creating vertical folds of material to stiffen the whole thing. I need to rethink all of this… thinking

Better ask AI to add a safety feature too… rofl

Be careful not to damage your car. The regular mirror supports do have a safety feature should the mirrors be whacked or bumped into, I often walk into mine. The arms are sprung loaded to protects the fixings from being ripped out or even worse, door panel damage.

Here's version 2.0 of my Grand Prix-style rearview mirrors: shorter, thicker, and more rigid idea :

Are you sure that’s stiff enough? farmer

It looks like you may have modelled the latest version using Inventor, if so you could check it?

Knock up a simple model of your existing mirror arm and then run them both through the embedded finite element analysis package. Compare the structural strength and see how much better or worse it is than the original.

You could even go further and pop a mass on top to do a bit of vibe analysis too rofl

Here's the next step in the project coffee :
the supports were made of 20/10 stainless steel, and assembly will take place this week :

You definitely need a safety feature such as the spring system. Two reasons...
Prevent/minimise damage to the car it's mounted on.
Prevent/minimise damage to other venicles or objects AND people who get hit by it.
If on a kit car I suspect it would fail passing at the inspection phase for edges/projections too "sharp" plus rigidity. Maybe even issues at MOT ( or equivalent outside UK) and a modification for insurance. Non standard part post homoligation.

Well, I admire your skills Nestor, certainly also with the fuel cap and the spare wheel cover plate, but I don't think I will follow you with these side mirrors! But nothing so personal as taste!! Congrats on the job! thumbs
