Hi,
I want to have the leather repaired on my drivers seat side bolster. I've grazed it where I get in and slide down to sit in and it's now starting to tear.
Is it possible to take the seat back off the seat or will I need to take the whole seat out?
I can't see how the seat back attaches to the base?
Its a 2009 4/4.
Thank you.
Paul

Paul, if you think tan-colour leather paint would work, I have some left that you’re welcome to try out first.”

Thanks Craig, I did try this a couple of years ago and it covered the scratches and patched it up for a good while, but now its worn thin and is splitting.
I have it booked in to have a replacement panel fitted but just wondered if I can just take the seat back rather than the whole heavy seat.
Thank you for your offer though, much appreciated.
Paul

Take the whole seat in to your repairer. On my Plus8 6 bolts. The rear 2 were recessed so getting a socket/spanner on is not easy. I jammed the head in ( I had a small Stilson that fitted) but replaced the hex head bolt with a socket head one when refitting.

Yep, I did as Sospan has. I have had the seats out on quite a few occasions and it's a relatively easy task. when undoing them wedge the head of the bolt in the runner with a screwdriver to stop it turning. You can do this task easily with the car on the ground. Sitting at the side of the car you can reach underneath to access the nuts, 6 per chair. They are imperial fixings so you will need A/F spanners.

Make sure your hood is open and the hood material is tucked outside the car rather than the normal inside/folded method. You will need this space to make manoeuvring the seat out. The floor retaining bar straps are the issue so before you attempt a lift centralise the seat on them with the excess sticking out the rear. Fold the seat back fully forward. Now, standing at the side of the car lift and at the same time rotate the seat towards the screen. They are not that heavy as seats go today so you won't get any Oh my God moments!

Your car may or may not have timber spacer strips under the seat rails and this may be a time to think how you would like to position your seat for maximum driver comfort. My didn't have any and for me a set of tapered spacers starting at the front abutted to the cross member at a height of 15mm finishing at the back of the floor strip at 23mm revolutionised my seat position. You will also notice that where the seat mounting strip is attached to the seat frame there is a nut which sticks out underneath and if no provision in made to accommodate this nut when the seat is bolted down it causes the seat frame to flex and makes forward and back adjustment of the seat difficult. Yes Morgan thought that the carpet would accommodate this.... they were wrong and never rectified it!

Although my seats have been out a few time I never paid attention to the seat back fixing although I would take the whole seat as that's what a trimmer would expect and looking at your leather damage you have a seriously weakened area in need of a proper repair rather than a cover up!

Thank you guys.
I am having a new leather replacement panel sewn in.
Then I'll have to learn to get in and out without scrapping it :-)
