As I mentioned in Grumpy's Moggie Minor thread, I have a hankering for an old Sportster.

In our household, we have a tradition of 'f*ck it April' which allows us to spend larger than usual sums of money of non essentials (a few years ago it was a trip to Nashville to see Queen)

Well, it's almost April, I've almost cleared all my debts and I've had a bad week and wanted to cheer myself up........

The first photos are of my new XLH1000 and the last photo is the kind of style I'll be going for - desert racer/bar hopper.....

Sawing the pots off and welding them together is going to be the hard bit of that job!! ๐Ÿ˜†

Will be good to see a stripped down Sporty ... the Ironheads were like a big British bike and are really well priced these days for a proper bike made of proper metal

More power to your elbow Phil, and post up as it goes along.

Have to admit I had a thing for Harleys, going back to the 60`s when Fred Warr in London was the only dealer in the UK, as best I can remember he was importing and converting ex US military bikes around that time.. In later years as potential a born again biker, Harley came to mind as a possible target,, at the time HOG magazine was a must monthly purchase, till HD shut it down, as I think they may have taken offence to others using the HOG i.d...?
All that to type that I finally got round to throwing my leg over a neighbours Sportster, around the time I was also helping a pal with his Triumph 650 twin I think it`s designation in the US was TR6...??
For the Harley was a very different m/cycle than anything I had been used to, however the Triumph just more suited my style of riding... As ever each to their own. Looking forward to reading of your progress TBM.
Pic of the Sportser I had a short ride on, I suspect it might be classified as a custom machine as opposed to a rat bike...?

Looks a very similar model to mine.

I must admit, I used to be a bit sniffy about Harleys, and was definitely not a fan of the 'lifestyle' - Harley pants, socks and aftershave etc.

However, as I've got older I've got bored of cleaning and balancing multiple carbs, and fannying about with complexities of newer bikes, and craved the agricultural simplicity offered by Harley.

I'm not going to get rid of my hooligan ZX10 but find myself using it less and less.......

A pal of mine has a big Yamaha virago wasting away in his garage. Iโ€™ve often thought about dragging it home and rebuilding it for him. Trouble is itโ€™s huge and Iโ€™m not a big chap so Iโ€™d likely squash myself with it!

Shame as it has some presence.
