My starter motor on my 1994 4/4 Ford Zetec Silver top 1.8 has become intermittent at start up. I am looking for a direct replacement starter. Has any member any info on the part number/type etc. Many thanks in advance. Peter

If you are going to replace starter.Suggest you swop to a high torque one. Think the company advert is in MSCC mag .

It is the Ford 5 speed and reverse, synchromesh on all forward gears. The bell housing is aluminium. I had found another 'bad' earth and after a clean the 4/4 started. I kept trying it and it fired up each time. However today I moved it out of the garage and then left it. On returning later to go out it did not start! Thanks for your response.

I've just replace the starter on my silver top 2.0l Zetec with a new Polish one, cost about £70 and seems to work fine, from my local Autoelectrical specialist in Exeter, but don't know the number, no dout could check. The other option is to have your existing motor rebuilt, I had my old one refurbed and keep it as a spare, cost £45 from the Battery Centre in Bridgwater.
Good luck.
