Clemens, do you have to undo the buckle and disconnect the belt to lift the bonnet, or is it fixed to the underside of the bonnet and entirely for 'vintage style' ? - useful to know as I need to lift the bonnet to connect the battery to the monitor / charger when my Morgan is garaged.

Krazy Horse in Suffolk fitted mine as I just liked the look of the straps I’d seen. No questions about ventilation issues although, if they’re selling the straps I guess they wouldn’t! That said KH are pretty good at all mods and advised against the badge bar, although I struggle to see how 1x badge would affect the airflow that much!

As for the strap, t’s a genuine leather Morgan (embossed) strap with sheepskin underneath to protect the paintwork. I was concerned about strap rubbing and potentially damaging the paintwork. So far it’s stayed nice and tight. That said there was some light scratching near the buckle area where the underside of the buckle leather square wasn’t fitted with a sheepskin underlay. I have since fitted some sheepskin and no further scratching has appeared. Why it was fitted with sheepskin along the length of the strap and not under the buckle is a mystery!

The downside! Krazy Horse have fitted, as I guess they always have and drilled one 10mm hole in each side of the wing to attaché the ends of each strap. If I wanted to remove the strap completely, I’m left with two 10mm holes that are visible in the wings where the strap was bolted to the car. This isn’t ideal, especially as one side appears to be fully visible whilst the other is mostly hidden by the bonnet. This annoyed me at first but now not so much as the strap will always be installed, and as bolted to the wings, it means the bonnet is extra secure. Easy enough buckle to undo when washing the car or for an MOT etc.

All in all it’s just for athletics. Given my colour-way, I liked the idea of having a new car with the reliability and performance… but to still look like an old classic. Each to their own I guess.

Ps. The strap matches the Morgan suitcase a treat… however I’d argue the strap is probably more useful 🤣

Agreed!

Yes, I love the look, and like others I can't see what airflow impact a strap would have. I didn't actually ask MMC about the strap, I asked if a badge bar was OK on a CX (having heard various opinions). As I mentioned they said 'don't fit a badge bar as the BMW engines need all the airflow they can get" and then added (though I hadn't asked) "for the same reason we advise against a bonnet strap". They suggested I could mount badges to the luggage rack, I don't see myself doing that anytime soon but perhaps that is the best use of the rack?

If you have a strap and / or badge bar, monitor the coolant temperature. Perhaps it really only matters in the height of summer, if at all!

Sheepskin under the strap will collect dirt and mark the paint - it happened on my Plus 4. But it doesn’t matter if the strap is never removed!

I'm sure the bonnet strap was an option when I ordered my plus four in '21

I applied PPF under the belt (to my now sold Morgan), with no issues with marking the paint.

That's a keeper Craig! I will put it up on GoMoG if you don't mind.

I too love Morgan bonnet belts..as much as I love low down torque. tipshat 30+ years ago I would regularly scratch my bonnets trying, no LINING, and EVERYTHING else. Nothing worked so I kept having the cars' bonnets resprayed every year. Quebec winters give one time to cure everything
.
After a time, I began having my belts made by my wife's tack person...(Audrey is a horse/people trainer and whisperer). That tack person turned me on to something that also works. Persian Lamb, that cheap fur substitute our great-grandmothers used to use. The tack person bought me some, lined a belt, and I haven't had a scratch on the car since, nor the others I did the same with. I bought black, but I see all earth colours in Persian Lamb up on ebay.co.uk

I also like the idea of adding a hood belt; I had one installed on my 4/4 Sport and my V6 Roadster 👌🏼

However, my interior is chocolate brown, and I've never seen a hood belt in that color. I'd like it to match my interior if I install one🎨

The belt must be unfastened at the buckle and moved to the left and right to open the hood.

My mounting holes are definitely located under the hood and are therefore not visible when the belt is removed. My car is still in the winter garage and should be coming out by the end of this week. I’ll take some photos then.
Here’s the link to the Morganpark bracket for the belt
