March 25, I installed spotlights. (how time flies) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2025/04/10/DSCN5360.md.jpg) Never connected them because a friend had done the same on his 2013 +4 and had problems with the fuse. They blew (every time) after a while when the spotlights were turned on. There is a plug ready in the wiring harness that supplies power when the high beams are turned on. At least with that 2013 +4, not so with my 2014 +4. Yet both Duratec engines. My idea was to connect them directly on the Battery with a fuse and a switch under the dashboard. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2026/03/11/DSCN7111a.md.jpg) As we have a night rally next week and SWMBO don't like driving the Morgan in the dark to much, this was the right moment. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2026/03/11/DSCN7099.jpg) Test next Friday

Good job; in my experience, you've taken the right approach. On my 2012 Plus 4, using Morgan's integrated spot/fog light loom resulted in an identical fuse-blowing issue your friend suffered. There's clearly something not right with it, given we both suffered the exact same issue. To solve the fault and for complete safety/peace of mind, I simply fitted a nicely made independent auxiliary lights loom, buying the components and making my own loom would have actually worked out more expensive. Strickly speaking, as I run LED bulbs in my Marchal fog lights a relay isn't necessary, but as this was already integrated into my new stand-alone loom, I figured it made no sense to remove it. I also figured if I ever decided to go back to incandescent bulbs, a relay would be essential, a suitable fuse value was selected and I finished off the job by placing my illuminated switch where you've placed yours. It all works perfectly and has been completely reliable, just as you'd expect; most importantly, it's 100% safe, unlike my experience with the Morgan wiring! Some will try to convince you the Morgan aux lighting loom is the way to go, but based on my experience I really can't recomend it. My advice to anyone fitting fogs/spots would be to take the safe option and fit a stand-alone loom with integrated relay, fuse holder and of course a fuse of the correct calculated value, because let's face it.... you're a long time living in regret!

I made a mistake I have never made before, and hopefully never will again. I hooked up the battery charger backwards. And the smoke poured out of the alternator. OOPS!
So last night I replaced the alternator and the connecting plug. Restarted and everything is good to go!
I won't do that again!

Took mine for its MOT, straight through with no advisories. Only doing about 2k miles a year these days, but it's nice to have it available.

I installed the motor mount bracket that I had modified to straighten the engine, bolted up the exhaust header, and mounted the carburetors. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2026/03/29/IMG_8943Crop.md.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2026/03/29/IMG_8944Crop.md.jpg)

Impressed with your work 1845sailor ... very thorough and thoughtful ... loving the twin webers ... I have them on my MG racer and sometimes when I'm in the garage I pop the bonnet just to look at them! 🙂

K Thank you! I have found a lot of questionable workmanship on the car and I'm just trying to put it right.

I got the cowl and valence back on. The grille isn't exactly vertical, but it's a lot better than it was... ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2026/04/05/IMG_8949crop.md.jpg)
