Your symptoms sound like the Trailer is Painted in a 1k Poly, quite common marerial for commercial and industrial use, however not very UV protective.

Lightly keying the Paintwork, clean with spirit/Panel Wipe and a recoat with QD Synthetic will bring the gloss level and value back.

Many thanks for all the suggestions ... plenty there to ponder .... Dean-Royal, is it clear coat or colour you suggest spraying?

Thanks All

As it's a workhorse of a trailer and I don't have the time for proper prep and spraying I thought I'd give Cooperman's suggestion a go .... it was really badly weathered, dull matt and patchy ... as it is a black trailer, and I had a choice, I used black waxoyl thinned 50% with white spirit .... rubbed into the surface and then buffed off when dry ... quite hard on the arms but cheap and quick. Wouldn't recommend for smartening up the Roller but it ended up with a nice even satiny finish ... blackness restored and surprisingly pleasing looking.

In the pic the central section is as it was and both front quarters after waxoyling ... certainly good enough to avoid unwanted scrutiny as it goes by.

Will see how it lasts, but don't mind doing it every now and then if needed.

Just drive it in the wet, if the sun comes out, peel an onion, the tears will make you see everything in gloss.

Having successfully tapped into the hive-mind on behalf of my trailer (must admit to being so pleased to see it black and glossy after putting up with it looking patchy, faded and matt ... certainly looks better presented now to a passing Traffic car ... always been well maintained and roadworthy but looked iffy before)

Thought I'd try my luck for products that might perk up the plastic trim round my equally well maintained but hard-worked looking tow-van (got it's new MOT on Monday! 🙂) ... nothing I've tried has lasted ... think it was originally battleship grey rather than black.

Any thoughts gratefully recieved.

Thanks

K
