I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet but hope someone in the wider TM community benefited from these results; although, in all honesty, it does seem surprising that they were sold at the prices they were and it makes me wonder how much advice was taken, prior to auction, as to where the price should be. https://cars.bonhams.com/auction/31854/goodwood-members-meeting/?query=morgan(all prices include buyers premium) 1935 Morgan Super Sports - £20,700 - Reg FDD 460 1966 Morgan +4+ (Plus Four Plus) coupe (with extra engine) - £14,750 - Reg KBF 267D 1966 Morgan +4+ (Plus Four Plus) coupe (project) - £6,916 - Reg BUY 280B 1970 Morgan +8 (Plus 8 Moss Box) - £16,100 - Reg UOU 208H 1970 Morgan +8 (Plus 8 Moss Box) - £13,225 - Reg UOP 193H Did anyone on here purchase one of these?

Hi Simon, I was just going to post about it..
The was a time when a +4+ would make £100k and I think the record is £250k, albeit restored…
The +8’s looked very cheap for Moss Box cars, they used to be £30k upwards..
Anyone see the cars in person? Will

I think the record is £250k, albeit restored… I've heard this said before but I don't think there is any proof of it and I do wonder if it was circulated at a time when someone was trying to inflate the price of another one coming up for sale. The best example (and it was like new and a lovely specification) seems to have been the one sold, iirc, at Pebble Beach and that went (again, if I am not mistaken) for $120,000 a decade or so ago. For the past few years, the grey one has been floating around but has failed to reach the reserve at five (?) auctions; the last one being a few weeks ago where it stalled at £28,000. There were only two parties bidding from circa £17,000 to where it stopped at £28k and it didn't sell. KBF 267D was a good purchase for someone, in my opinion. I'm sure people who know far more than I will have their own opinions of the Moss box Plus 8s but they seem keenly priced as well.

The crash in classic values seems to be across the board. A pal of mine is trying to sell a 1966 Triumph T120 TT desert racer, he's struggling to find buyers even down at £8k. He's kicking himself because only about 3 years ago someone offered him £20k.
But it's like they say, the value of investments can go down as well as up. As the pool of interested buyers shrinks, so will the values.

Very odd.. Looked at the YouTube auction replay..
The +4+’s made a lot more in the room than their published sale prices. Red ones 17k didn’t sell and 16k for body didn’t sell. ..

It is my understanding that, at least, the red one sold and the price was within a whisker of the range published. I cannot say why Bonhams have presented they information in the manner in which they have but it would suggest that perhaps deals were done after it ended.

The running coupe would appear to be a reasonable buy if you had the capacity to carry on and fully restore it, but the body from Melvins ... It is strange because about three years ago three of them came up for sale at once too. Though to my knowledge none actually did sell back then.

The +4+’s made a lot more in the room than their published sale prices. Red ones 17k didn’t sell and 16k for body didn’t sell. .. That's the auctioneer taking bids off the wall to get up to the reserve. Years ago I had a car in auction (a very nice low mileage 4-door Metro Van den Plas with sunroof) and there was a very encouraging flurry of bids from all around the room that stopped just below my reserve. I said I would accept the highest bid and was told there hadn't been any! In my limited experience, you can't rely on the prices reported on the auction company website. My Chummy at auction had a guide price of £10K-£12K. I put in a bid of £8K and the auction ended with "reserve not met". The next day I got an email to say it was mine. No negotiation, the vendor obviously decided it was enough and my bid was binding. The website, however, recorded the reserve price plus premium, over £2K more than I actually paid.

But it's like they say, the value of investments can go down as well as up. As the pool of interested buyers shrinks, so will the values. I fully suspect that the decline in market value relative to classics valued by the baby boomers, may well be directly related to the decline in numbers of the baby boomers, thus I expect that which was valued in terms of investment potential re classics may more disappoint those who might depend upon it for any future financial planning...? Unfortunately it seems another of the baby boomers asset classes, may be heading in a similar direction to Classics in terms of the housing market, if the young can not earn enough to get a mortgage even by increasing the length of the repayment period..The outcome seems rather obvious, across the average income earners in the general populac, leaving room for the cash rich to ..err..make a killing.. Thinking not only Blackrock, but others of a similar ilk... Where might that lead is anybody`s guess...? Todays bargain classic may be tomorrow`s regretted purchase...? Unless of course one tends to make maximum use of it by whatever means provides the most pleasure for it`s owner...? BTW Had I bought a mid 80`s Porsche 911 for a similar amount to the circa £20k I bought my +8 for back in circa 2002 with 8k miles on the clock, what difference in the values today..? My guess would be that if you could find a mid 80`s base 3.2 911 with 38k miles on the clock, it would be a bit of a unicorn, and perhaps showing similar signs of usage as my +8, it would be knocking on £100k As for the current market value of my +8, I leave you to guess.... as a guess is all it will be, for I care not a jot, as I have no intention, or more fortunately need, to turn it into cash at this moment in time..Tomorrow, all that could change for me too... Once I get the long list of Spring related pot hole filling and gardening tasks diminished to the extent that I can justify firing up the old Mog and ENJOY it... while I still can... (-: I feel really sorry for those who may depend on the value of what was once thought to be a pretty secure investment class, and which may be found to be in a stage of decline..... )-: I look forward to an alternative view being presented..?

I look forward to an alternative view being presented..? I bought my 4/4 four years ago when I guess prices were still pretty high. I didn't buy it as an investment but I told my wife - and believed it myself - that Morgans held their value pretty well, had done so for many years and therefore I wouldn't lose too much should I sell it later. Perhaps if we keep it long enough it might go up again? Who knows!

It’s not only a reflection of the overall market but trad Morgans have been hit particularly hard. I’ve had my eye on two examples, both 3.9 pre cats and near perfect condition and even at low £20ks they remain unsold after 18 months.

Curiously, plus 8's in the States seem to be holding up rather better, 45k to 70k$: https://bringatrailer.com/search/?s=morgan+plus+8

A left-hand-drive car may do better there, although I assume the car hasn't yet made it to Germany as the listing is using Bonhams' pictures. Asking price £1!

How low can they go ? My old Plus 8 sold recently, really nice car and the ad didn't mention that it also had the Suplex front suspension upgrade. I would have bought it back at that price had I known it was up for sale. https://www.carandclassic.com/auctions/1995-morgan-plus-8-nJv19n

Think it was sold on pre bids at £16k rather than the auction running till the end..
