I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet but hope someone in the wider TM community benefited from these results; although, in all honesty, it does seem surprising that they were sold at the prices they were and it makes me wonder how much advice was taken, prior to auction, as to where the price should be.

The was a time when a +4+ would make £100k and I think the record is £250k, albeit restored…

The +8’s looked very cheap for Moss Box cars, they used to be £30k upwards..

I've heard this said before but I don't think there is any proof of it and I do wonder if it was circulated at a time when someone was trying to inflate the price of another one coming up for sale.

The best example (and it was like new and a lovely specification) seems to have been the one sold, iirc, at Pebble Beach and that went (again, if I am not mistaken) for $120,000 a decade or so ago.

For the past few years, the grey one has been floating around but has failed to reach the reserve at five (?) auctions; the last one being a few weeks ago where it stalled at £28,000. There were only two parties bidding from circa £17,000 to where it stopped at £28k and it didn't sell.

KBF 267D was a good purchase for someone, in my opinion.

I'm sure people who know far more than I will have their own opinions of the Moss box Plus 8s but they seem keenly priced as well.

The crash in classic values seems to be across the board. A pal of mine is trying to sell a 1966 Triumph T120 TT desert racer, he's struggling to find buyers even down at £8k. He's kicking himself because only about 3 years ago someone offered him £20k.

But it's like they say, the value of investments can go down as well as up. As the pool of interested buyers shrinks, so will the values.

I guess .. this shows the situation on the market .. .. and I assume .. there will be not much of a change in this decade ..

I've just had a look at the online catalogue .... they all need plenty of work doing on them!

Looked at the YouTube auction replay..

The +4+’s made a lot more in the room than their published sale prices. Red ones 17k didn’t sell and 16k for body didn’t sell.

That is odd. It is my understanding that, at least, the red one sold and the price was within a whisker of the range published. I cannot say why Bonhams have presented they information in the manner in which they have but it would suggest that perhaps deals were done after it ended.

The running coupe would appear to be a reasonable buy if you had the capacity to carry on and fully restore it, but the body from Melvins ... It is strange because about three years ago three of them came up for sale at once too. Though to my knowledge none actually did sell back then.
