Jon, Thank you for the update and excellent photos. thumbs
Looks to be an inexpensive and effective arrangement.
I like not having to drill extra holes for attaching...

I am pretty sure but can't be certain that the Ford fusion with the DBW was not fitted with an idle speed control valve. If I understand the function of this valve correctly it bypasses the throttle plate at idle so that the PCM can effectively open the throttle. This takes account of the the increased load that can be applied to an idling engine with lights, heater fan, powder steering etc. So if there is no ISCV then I am guessing that that function is taken care of by the fact that the PCM sits between the pedal and the throttle plate and can choose to modify what the pedal position is calling for. My Morgan has the old fashion mechanical throttle cable but has a PCM, so has a ISCV valve fitted.

Zach, we need you to work out why the 3.7 Roadsters suffer rev hang and if it's related to all this complexity discussed above

If you can find a cure there's lots of interested parties & you could make a few £££

Hi Cooperman

Regarding the throttle hang problem you mentioned. This can be deliberately programmed in to he PCM by the manufacturers for clean burn and emissions purposes. Have a look at this post because someone far more able than me has sorted it.

I repaired, prepped and painted the the elbow top rail getting it ready to install new welting, and made a little bracket to keep the accelerator cable off the header.

It came on first on an uphill stretch, and all power vanished, but it would start and idle perfectly. It never went into limp mode. After some throttle pumping it would rev to the limiter in bursts, and then stutter back to a steady tickover. It did this about six times on that journey, in which I filled the tank. It felt like water in the fuel (and may have been) or an electrical glitch. By the time we got home, it was running normally. There were no error codes. I changed the relays, and checked the fuses, and because the tailpipe was blacker, decided to replace the cat, and sensors as emissions were rubbish anyway. So it remains an enigma.

That's as close to my issue as I've heard from anyone else on TM Dave. When it first happened three or four years ago there was no fault code despite uncomfortably driving car to the next stop 15 miles away as I was leading a group. The only consistency is that after a wait of around three minutes the problem clears and on one occasion didn't reoccur for three years! Another thought given this issue is that the adaptive mapping somehow gets corrupted and the three minutes wait with engine off allows it to clear or reset. Backing this thought is the fact once manifested the problem never clears whilst engine remains running.

Thanks again for reply Tony. Yes no ISCV on my car or any other with DBW operated throttle for the reasons you mention.

For the record I don't have the infamous and now hopefully historic throttle hang issue suffered by many earlier 3.7 Roadster owners. The effects of this were very accurately described to me by an owner who's car was written off when it happened, thankfully with no harm to himself.

Q: How many programmers does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: None. Programmers don't change lightbulbs; that's a hardware issue...

I got the welting installed. A couple of the first few brass nails bent, so I marked and predrilled the holes with a bit slightly smaller than the nail and it worked great...

I put the wheels back on, got her back on the ground, filled the tank with fresh fuel and went to the grocery store. Life is good!
