We were wild and grew up in the freedom of the countryside, pipe bombs were not acceptable in towns..I know I tried it in Norwich just the once.. At that age it was far more interesting than girls pissing about with their hair and horses etc.. Once you discover the internal combustion engine the enquiring mind is seconds away from inventing your own external one

We made a bomb using aluminium powder and nitrocellulose, rattled every window in the village. Most people assumed it was a sonic boom apparently. We were given a stern warning.

Another childhood well spent - Love it - I remember at around ten my mates Dad had a twelve bore so when they went out one evening we decided to take it onto their bowling green just before the chicken area in the clearing and give it a go - amazing how much you learn about recoil and the splendid display at night and deserved sore arse to follow. No telling off just the sore one as we had understanding parents that understood the journey that we were on.. I have always had a love of firearms and still have a Luger my late Father liberated from a Jerry during the war and a few other useful bits and pieces to hand when I join the local shoot. I tried a pump action once but I thought that was a little savage in a gentleman's world that these things tend to be, albeit with high German and Chinese head counts.

tried my Gt Uncle's 12 bore in the garden when I was 8, scared the chickens and gave me a sore shoulder but never got found out.

In the school holidays I used to help my Dads cousin out.
He was a shot firer and used to have his set days around the local quarries.
Usually used ANFO but very occasionally we used gelly.
My job was to tamp the charge, insert the detonator and stop up the charged hole.
Cousin would do the role call, sound the warning, check the firing circuit and press the button
