Anyone understand the pricing? I saw somewhere, and echoed in the Daily Telegraph article (above) that the base price of the S400 is £112k, yet the confgurator shows the base price as £135,558 and the "Supersport Specs" table in the DT article has it as £138,883.

Ah, just found it, sort of. The list price is £113k excluding VAT, the price is £135,558 including VAT, and £138,883 on the road.

Porsche have offered PTS (paint to sample) for as long as I can remember. In early days it seemed limited to very high end customers (the Sultan of Brunei being one that I can recall) but as they moved to the 997, more common. However, with that said, even with the 997 I remember having to submit a request for the PTS colour I wanted and if they had not previously produced it, there was a charge to test the colour on the various materials used on the bodywork prior to agreeing to it. After that, as I am sure you are aware, they charged an not insignificant premium for the approved PTS option. With the 991 and 992, the pre approval seems to have been done away with and the colour back catalogue is open. I'm not sure how they'd react to a regular customer asking for a non-Porsche colour and that would be an interesting test.

With all of that said, paint is just one element. Afaik, Morgan will paint you car any colour, use any leather you want, and, as we know from various owners, are more than willing to do their best to accommodate special requests; this is what I meant by bespoke. I know Ferrari and various other high end companies do genuine bespoke at stratospheric price points but does any other car company do it at Plus Four level? I don't believe so but perhaps I'm wrong.

With just a few options not many will be on the road for less than £150,000.

Think my first nearly new and nicely specced Plus 4 around fifteen years ago cost approximately £30k and 2010 models are around that price now.

Need to dig deeper for new Morgans now though.

If we're being fair, we should be comparing like for like not apples vs oranges.

The CX Plus Four is a very different vehicle to the 2010 +4.

Quite possibly like comparing a MY2000 Rover Mini to a new BMW Mini. Both are great vehicles in their own right but they are distinctly different both in terms of manufacturing process, technology, and what they offer.

Do I wish the new Plus Four had a lower price to entry, of course! Nevertheless, I'm also aware that MMC needs to amortise the cost of the CX platform development over these new vehicles, so I do understand why the price increase wasn't linear.

PS - is anyone else reminded of the Japanese national flag when looking at the Daily Telegraph article? Looking at that backdrop I was expecting to see Honda's NSX vIII, Nissan's latest Godzilla GTR or Toyota's reboot of the LFA.

I’ve just been looking at the price of the extras!! Goodness me! MMC are pricing in another league now.

Absolutely beautiful car. Doubt it will ever make it to USA. If it gets into USA it will cost at in the range of $225,00 plus.Local taxes and and add-ons will take it to at least $250,000. Market will be pretty small - Hedge fund managers will love it !!! At that price will have to compete with Aston Martin, McLaren, Corvette ZR1X, Ferrari and of course Bentley. As regards hosrepower in USA ,incidently the Corvette ZR1 has a 1000 HP and will get you to 60mph in 1.68 seconds and Mustang dark horse 795 HP and takes 3.7 seconds to 60mph - the Supersport 400 does it in 3.6 seconds. Appreciate "big horsepwer" for a light weight car. Morgans will always be the classiest and uniquely rare car.

I have plus six, with traction control. In sport mode, at 50mph, if I floor the throttle to overtake, I can feel the traction control kick in and smell rubber. I don't need more power!

To be serious in their 911 comparison, they really, really need to sort out wind noise. I had a 996 cabriolet. It had a perfect fit roof and was comfortable at 75mph touring. Roof down, they supplied a wind deflector that massively increased comfort at speed. On my trip to Liverpool from Essex last week in my plus six, I had to wear motorbike earplugs, roof up or down.

I can live with that. I bought it to replace a 1959 TR3a and it is comparable to that for wind noise. So I'm happy with more reliability, better power and handling. I'll live with earplugs, but my wife won't.

Rather than more power, for both the Four and the Supersport, development needs to go into better door seals (acoustic and rain) and a laminated, noise insulating soft top, for sustained long distance touring, plus a quickly detachable wind protector behind the occupants, like Porsche / older Mercedes SLs. It shouldn't be too difficult to make a sensational improvement. Then they would have a true sports grand tourer (if you have a rear rack!).

Nobody does, but there is always a market for people who want to have the ultimate bragging rights down at the golf club. I'm sure that these things will sell well and none of them will ever be taken anywhere near their limits. With the improved suspension and drivetrain, hopefully we'll see fewer prangs like we seemed to get with the Plus Six.
