I had a lovely little hoon around the back lanes of Gloucestershire, enjoying smelling the blossom from the oilseed rape fields. I was my first chance to properly put my new tyres to the test.

After many years of Vredestein Sprint Classics, which are excellent but extremely pricey these days, I made the swap to T-Trac 2 and I have to say I can't tell the difference in grip, ride comfort, or roadholding. The only downside is looks, the outer carcass has very fine ribbing which makes the tyres look a bit dull, but at less than half the price I'm more than happy.

I had a good look at that Ruff/Williams car when there last summer. Mr Ruff himself talked me through it. Stripped back for racing but no tweeks at that time. It had been for one outing in standard tune and upgrades were being planned. Standard tune...did exceedingly well so upgrades should make it a beast. Looks like it had become a beast!

That's true, had a conversation with one of the mechanics, they are far beyond the 402 BHP of the factory. hide
But it remains an unequal fight; it's modern against classic. drive

Drive it day trip in Morton to visit 95th bomb group museum at Horham in north Suffolk incorporating the Red Feather club. The USAAF flew B17's from there between 1943 and 1945 on over 300 missions claiming 425 downed enemy aircraft but loosing around 160 of their own and 637 men. The only group in the 8th army to receive three DUC's (distinguished unit citations).

Very tidy although small museum and quite busy given the great weather. Several classics on display including a group of US servicemen in ratrod pickups and the like.

Menton to Sospel and La Turbie via all the super twisty bits and tunnels, back via Monaco...amazing roads for Mog, feels like driving the rally Cols almost

So high in parts we had the wipers on as below the clouds

Now that's what I call a proper Drive it Day thumbs

Made it safely to Poolewe. Only decent car seen was a Jag Mk2. Busier this year for camper vans on the Skye route. One doing 45mph and would not pull over. We were too far back to fix that. Eventually his bladder spoke and the road cleared. From Kyle of Lochalsh up to Gairloch, road surface is ghastly, although most of the rest is good. We did 2/3 distance through showers with the roof down, but approaching Loch Maree, the greyness prompted a stop and the roof up.
Loch Ewe was the base for Arctic Convoys, so a lot of references and relics around. And some good walking. Here until Wednesday.
All the old fogies are in SUVs. A line of them at the last hotel, and the same here.
There was a time when it was all Merc estates, then Audi estates. How times change!

That picture of the MGB GT reminded me I was following one for about 20 miles a white chrome bumper GT on Saturday on the M6, he was cruising along at 70 mph with ease, his exhaust fumes were cleaner (cannot miss such things when the roof is down) than some of the much newer cars......and the difference in tyre noise was staggering, some of these big SUV's are real noise polluters. I'm consider getting ear defenders for motorway trips in the Morgan when roof down.
