Not so unusual as you think Mercedes added lead weights to cut out resonance and mitigate scuttle-shake in their '90's W!24 Cabriolets.

ANother 'old hands' advice I'll pass on, as most Harley seats are some form of plastic/vinyl covering, they with a hot engine underneath especially in summer , the seats 'draw you' ie make you sweat and become uncomfortable after a while. If you can't afford a leather replacement or they are no longer available, I use a new chamois leather placed on top of the seat, it saves your backside and you just remove it when not riding. I did 3 weeks of riding in the US on a chamois leather, as a leather seat wasn't available at the time for my new model Dyna-glide I took across to the States for the 90th celebrations. There are pictures of me on the freeway with little flaps or ears of the square chamois blowing in the wind. I was one of the few that didn't suffer saddle soreness after long days of riding.

After a while I used to get my standard Harley seat recovered in leather, usually having memory foam added as necessary to get the ride height correct for me......not cheap even back in the 90's..

Leather was dead posh in the nineties! Back then my bike seats were mostly covered in black gaffer tape......

I'll stick with the vinyl - suits my veganism a little better!

Nice bike, John. I’ve tweaked the look of my ’92 Heritage to make it look a bit more like the Hydra Glides from the ’50s. I also had to remove a whole bunch of “Live to Ride” emblems from the previous owner—they sold surprisingly well. I highly recommend the classic pan seat—it’s super comfortable. The Evo is my touring bike; I’ve ridden it on a trip that almost took me all the way around the Baltic Sea.

A great look to your bike, the solo seat sets it off with the red in the windshield, makes a very 50's period look to the bike. NIce bike the Heritage, I had the 1990 Gray Ghost Fatboy and loved riding it.....the solid wheels were problematic in heavy side winds....but love that period look to that generation of evo Harleys........the last of the great engines built by Harley.


I have a 1992 Harley Genuine accessories USA catalogue, which is a great nostalgic look back over, especially the $ prices back then, of course it helps with having the part no's when searching for period parts and accessories.

One of the very few periods when my Knuck had a front fender ... when I first put it in a swingarm frame and I wanted the old late '50s Duo-Glide look 🙂

The colour scheme reminds me of my Gray GHost Fatboy...maybe your bike was the inspiration for Willie G....

Shakedown run didn't happen. Primary case sump plug is leaking - again needs a helicoil so ordered that.

Also found a set of drag pipes cheap on ebay - will spray them black and swap them over, and decided the back end is too busy. Ordered a small tail light and will hit the rear mudguard with the grinder next weekend

John .... bought it for pennies as a basket case when I was living in Santa-Cruz CA in 1979 .... been with me more than half my life! 🙂

It was painted silver with old-english white panels and a fine gold pinstripe between ... much more comfy than the rigid chop version (especialy with the advent of ubiquitous potholes) ... and it was nice to have a tank with the range to get me between two open petrol stations on the A1 on a Sunday evening!! 🙂

Phil .... wrote a bit on one of my earlier posts regarding the back of your bike but deleted it before sending as it's none of my business! 🙂 ... but seeing as you brought the subject up! 😆 ..... on the side pic, if you imagine a line from the rear of the tank to the end of the front muffler, it's like two bikes! ... to the right it's stripped and lean (and would be welcome in my garage all day long🙂) .... to the left it still looks like it was designed by a Harley exec with a belly the size of Jupiter! .... slim seat and some radical surgery to the rear fender will redress the visual balance I feel .... the rear fender on the current (blue) incarnation of my bike was the full glide rear before I put it on a crash slimming programme courtesy of my angle-grinder ..... a set of drags on that will have a bark!!
