Hi everyone, especially those who collect part numbers! I'm going to change the engine oil on my 1994 +8, 3.9lit. The council of perfection requires me to replace the copper washer on the drain plug. (Or is it OCD?) I would like to have a new one to hand so I don't have to end up packing the oil pump with vaseline. Does anyone happen to know a part number for the copper washer? Rimmer Bros. list various ones for V8's with id. of 14 or 16mm. I have a used one which might be from a previous oil change but is poorly labelled and is 20mm. Also, any preference for domed or flat washers. Any ideas please? Regards

I have always reused for 27 years but I smear a bit of Blue Hylomar on all mating surfaces. Wait for the armchair "experts" after the absolute plethora of tautology on an engine and rear axle oil change Two hours tops both jobs done

As +8Rich says reusing is fine, I’ve just replaced mine for the first time in 18 years, got some from Dingocroft (Land Rover parts guys), they’re aluminium, part number ALU1403L but were a bit spendy at 18p each…

Suggest buying a box of various sizes. Always useful to have around when need arises. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/SSgAAeSweARp09CS/s-l1600.jpg)

Have a box of these on the shelf.
One thing to note is that, because I have a bunch of old vehicles, I bought a box of imperial washers off a well known auction site ... to find they were just metric ones re-labled to their nearest imperial equivalent. 😡 ... had to re-buy from a proper supplier.

Yes this seems to be happening a lot. Recently I tried to source two large AF spanners as I needed an accurate fit onto brass nuts. (Steering preload) You order the AF but get the metric equivalent, which are slightly to big or to small.

I'm going to change the engine oil on my 1994 +8, 3.9lit. The council of perfection requires me to replace the copper washer on the drain plug.I would like to have a new one to hand so I don't have to end up packing the oil pump with vaseline. Does anyone happen to know a part number for the copper washer? Rimmer Bros. list various ones for V8's with id. of 14 or 16mm. I have a used one which might be from a previous oil change but is poorly labelled and is 20mm. Hi Red, My 450k kms means a lot of oil changes..figuring one every 5000 kms or less. Btw. on another point, I also changed all of my Plus 8s sumps to your year's as it is by far the best sump of all of them ever used. Like most amateurs, my sump and other plugs stopped leaking after the first 2-3 changes, a century ago. And though these washers are not critical, and our engines are infamous for leaking (it took me 2-3 years to figure out how to keep mine bone dry...a fetish) I use copper CRUSH washers. I have found them the best (picture below..examine it closely it is different from the standard copper washers. ). They cannot be re-used. Copper crush washers are designed so that they mould into a seal as you install them, much more so than other washers, even the ordinary copper ones. And there are better ones than the stock LR crush washers. Even Rimmer sells them #213961A but you can find better. BTW, if you are buying in the UK rather than the USA, the prices of everything will be around the same..figure a quid. I buy them in quantity. If one buys them in the USA, they canl be very dear. 10x I buy mine in the UK when I am there or have visiting mates bring them. As for losing your oil pump prime during a oil change, sorry angst was caused. It is very unlikely if you follow the Plus 8 oil change instructions on GoMoG. Just be apace about it. As in, do not take the oil filter off and walk away for a day. I have just visited the GoMoG's Plus 8 oil changing page and tried to make it sound more rational. (wryly) If you find something you feel should be added..send me a note. Lorne https://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/MorganPlus8SumpCrushWashers.jpg
