ps. that's for a 1985 +8 inj. DB Great year for a Plus 8, DB! Rare Vitesse engine, ported flowed heads, super stock cam.... Hardcastle believed it to be the most potent iteration of the Rover/LR stock engines until the 4.6s arrived and then the MMC used a restrictive fuel map on them that produced notably less bhp. than yours. (That can ve rectified by moving to a proper eprom . But the later 3.9 sumps are much better. They are steel, easily repairable by an amateur. An inch (from memory) more clearance while adding an extra litre of oil capacity, which I found keeps the oil notably cooler. For these reasons, they are hard to find now and expensive when you do. https://www.britishautoparts.com.au/inc/sdetail/14983 I bought mine when they were 5 quid on ebay 20 years ago. I keep two per car because that allows me to remove the dented one, replace it instantly and bang out the dents in its brother.at my leisure. Morgan did not switch to the later aluminum sumps when LR and other users of the engine did. If they had, there would have been a Roadster sump problem but much worse. The later stock LR sumps on the V8, cast aluminum, shatter when impacted. So they used the great 3.9 LR sump was used from at least 1990 to 2004. Some owners, rather than repairing their steel sump (takes a 2x2 and a hammer) send off for the wrong later sump. Below...a horrid thing Sorry, I'm rambling. These sump plugs are an odd size. Owners don't bother to measure much because we all buy the specific plug. So I thank you for your info. Officially, thread size/pitch is supposed to be 20.5mm (13/16") with 14 TPI (threads per inch) also known as BSW (British Standard Whitworth). The current part number 603659.Most suppliers will sell it with the crush washer noted, though buying a single crusher washer at a time makes no sense. Yes you are right With the exception of No2 Daughter anyone legal can drone on for hours about nothing - it's attrition they think they will bore the arse off you in court and you'll agree. As we see on here it doesn't work that way as there is far too many knowledgable people to shut him down or ignore him so his posts become historical chewing gum.. He does have a few loyal followers it would appear.....good luck to them both....

Slight drift but….
Morgan fitted my car and presumably all 70th Anniversary cars with a specialist aluminium sump. The sump plug is a shouldered bolt with a Dowty washer.
Amazingly, MMC say they have never used this but a Ford plug with combined washer (which doesn’t properly fit).

Any Ford garage can tell you if they see it. Not so, nor various sump manufacturers/suppliers to MMC! There is no cushioning effect from integral washers or crush washers so I torque up to 17lbft only. It hardly seems tight enough but I resist the temptation for a bit extra.

We must have other 70th owners on here that can help - or are you saying yours has been modified post factoty. That does seem om the light side but if you use Hylomar or something it will help, like you I'd be worried about damaging the threaded alloy and err on the safe side..

Hi Richard, No, nothing changed from day I bought car from MMC via Richard Thorne. Not a modified Ford sump but something special. Hence a vacant look from my friendly Ford people. Here’s a piccie of plugs supplied by MMC/ dealers. Then my plug and then the sump. Note the flat machined to accommodate the plug. Not big and near the bottom edge. I suppose after nineteen years I shouldn’t fret but it always nags at me. And yes, just what do other owners have. Incidentally, the original dowty washer was the wrong size! ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2019/12/11/image1.th.jpg)
