Yep .... out in the country the 'favours' are varied .... from plumbing in a pressure watering system in a greenhouse for one neighbour (made the mistake of letting her see the one I did for Mrs Image) , catching a swarm of bees for another to changing leaky hydraulic pipes on another one's tractor .... saves me getting bored.

Exhaust done - cut down, painted and fitted some baffles as I like my neighbours and tend to leave around 8.00am on a Saturday! Just need to make a couple of exhaust mounts - bits arriving shortly and then, bar the seat, she's all ready to go.

Good point. Just had a look and speedo cable routing might be an issue against the top yoke, but may be able to fabricate something.

I have a fix! Been racking my brain for ages, looking at small custom speedos, digital speedos etc, but all were big bucks and involved fiddly wiring (I hate wiiring!).

Had the solution alll along - I have a Beeline GPS Nav unit, that also has a Speed reading. Bought a split handlebar top mount, and will fit the beeline in the middle on the bars. Can then remove both the tacho and speedo and lose the cables as well. Will really tidy up the front end.

NIce solution. That will really clean up and remove most of the clutter in that area, plus the added benefit of a GPS. Far more minimalist and much cleaner look to the front end......

Wiring and cables re-routed, fork tops covered in silicon tube, speedo/tacho removed and replaced with Beeline. Tomorrow think I'm going to spray the headlight visor thing black to finish it all up.

Not sure - he usually has a three month waiting list, but as he's done five or six bike seats and my Morgan interior he lets me queue jump, so don't like to pressure him. Fngers crossed end of May (just after payday would be useful).

Today I'll be fabricating some exhaust mount brackets, painting the headlight visor thing and then hopefully a test ride!

Looking so much cleaner with the speedo and tach gone, very nice, spraying the headlight visor should bring it all together nicely.

Just completed a 560 mile round trip to see the Battistini Fatboy today, needless to say it's coming up north sometime next week. A really nice bike , great sound and some trick rear suspension setup I need to research further, will provide pictures later on. I remember seeing an article on this unusual suspension setup in the 90's, but can't find it at the moment. It keeps one of the two hidden rear suspension units and replaces the other unit with a type of lever arm system which attaches to the swing arm and then to the frame at a different point to the usual suspension units.

It's not turned a wheel since coming out of a £3200 recommissioning service in January, where the Harley dealer was told to replace whatever needed doing to ensure total reliability, so I benefit from new tyres, drive belt, starter motor, extensive service and other known areas like timing chain tensioner replaced.

It is a 31 year old bike so in amazing condition considering for a Harley of this era.You can tell its been in storage/display for many years, it's a very clean bike but has a few blemishes and needs extensive detailing to bring it back up to my usual standard and to get the best out of the paint and brightwork. Looks like I'm going to have shares in Autosol by the time I've finished.

Eventually after many days of searching managed to get it insured fully comp,. 3000 mile limit, no NCB ( as previous entitlement had expired as over 2 years ago) with only £100 excess for £210 by a company that is part of the Zurich Insurance Group. All the Battistini modifications accepted, documented and pictures of paintwork supplied so no misunderstandings. It is noted on the policy as a custom bike.

Must admit I was very surprised and pleased, so the legwork proved invaluable. I would pay far more than that for a similar value much newer Harley, so bike age does have its benefits. Not that I'm complaining but it demonstrates some of the insurance criteria for assessing risk is a bit of bunkum, as I'll only ride 'the bike' be it a newer Harley or this one, in the same manner and for the exact same journeys.

Good price - worth doing the leg work!
