I note that B&C Restoration this coming Thursday features a Morgan restoration. Following last week’s edition where the chosen vehicle was a Mercedes S class which, after purchase was sent to a specialist to be sympathetically restored……..but this was not to be as it was an absolute rot box and fit only for scrap. It shows the Mathewson family are full of Bull s**t as they stated at the beginning of the programme that it needs little work and a new front bumper to be superb! Their knowledge of classic cars leaves a bit to be desired and they are only interested in financial gain. You would think that they would have at least looked underneath the car and advised otherwise. The Merc was purchased at over £4K including buyer’s commission and then was put back into auction with the true condition specified and it went for £2K including sellers commission. It’s a win win for the Mathewsons. How many others have had the wool pulled over their eyes with their so called knowledge?

Rarely do the resto team buy anything that needs very little work, I would never buy anything from them CAVEAT EMPTOR.

Quite a few of our chaps (or widows) have sent cars to Matthewsons. In almost every case the sale price has been peanuts and their slice has been significant.

Example, let’s call him R

R passed away early 2025 leaving 3 cars. Austin A60, Rover P4, Rover P5

They came to pick his cars up for auction and charged 3x transportation fees @ £350 each

Two cars sold for very modest prices , I think under £5K and one failed to sell after two attempts. Commission of 6% for seller, around £300

Returned car back to R’s widow with a transportation fee of £350

Buyers fees were 11% I think

So Matthewons pocketed £2100 out of a £5000 sale and Mr R received approx £3400 and one unsalable car

Not a particular criticism of Matthewsons but an observation of perhaps the perfect business model. Selling something that’s not yours and charging both the seller and buyer.

Sounds reasonable to me, auction houses around here charge 20% both ways.

Derek’s on his way up to Scotland to pick up a barely used luxury motorhome for the next auction!

I suspect that the click bait title is somewhat OTT... but then that is to be expected is it not...?

Given the degree of corrosion evident on this +8, it does seem to have been somewhat exposed to the effects of less than ideal climatic conditions. Interestingly the chassis seemed not to receive much comment, but overall it did highlight some worthwhile pointers for anyone looking to buy into a +8 of that era. The wing cracking was no real surprise, and it might have been nice to show if any attempt to prevent it reoccurring had been taken during the repair process, but then I suspect the vid was perhaps not aimed at the DIY brigade of which it seems there may be fewer of in the Morgan community than there was when I first thought a Morgan might be THE car to enjoy roaring around the lochs and glens... (-:
