One Mini requiring a little TLC - a bargain at 5.5 k doh

My mate bought one of these old bangers for a fiver in Holmfirth and drove it down to Brixham for a training course we we were on at the Decca Navigator College.
It was used for picking up lump coal by a mate of his.

I borrowed it for a trip back to Norfolk to see the girlfriend that would become my wife, it was a long trip with no M5 and very little dual carriageway.

How times change - we should have bought a Mini not a Morgan laugh2

I'm not so sure that a Mini would be a good idea, Sue got a new one in '97 and within weeks it was back for remedial paintowrk around the gutters, by the third piece of warranty paintwork in basically the same area within 6 months...despite the fun we had, we parted company.

Which turned out to be a really good decision as Sue got the first of her two Peugeot 106 GTI, which was amazingly even more fun and a lot quicker compared to the mini.

Not everything is measured in ££££££. I know Sue would get the 106GTI anyday over the mini.........the 106GTI like the 205 GTI are really strong ££££'s if you want to get a good example...we really liked the mini great character, but loved the PUG

Yes as maybe - but my post was all about current values of Mini versus falling Morgan prices see...and nothing to do with pugs at all..

I drove the Sister in laws 205 GTI and was totally underwhelmed mind you we had a Holden Monaro GTS at the time to be fair.

I bought a new Mini Mayfair in 1985 when I lived in Jersey, two weeks later I took it back as the rust was coming through al over the roof.

Unreal - it amazes me how people are so besotted with these and Land Rovers at the moment we have them rusting / corroding away all around us downhere - a cult thing going on I think.

Five and a half thousand for a rusting shell is just f stupid.

Mrs H had the same problem, bought a new one in ‘98, the paint started coming off in flakes after a few weeks, Rover replaced it with a new one under warranty at 12 months, that then started the usual rust on the wings, a panel and windscreen surround.
