Chuffing Heck and Chuffer (bottom) are surely northern saying Rich !? Never owned or wanted a Mini but did a lot of travelling to dive locations in a friends mini van in the 60’s, even as far away from the Pool as Eyemouth, Anglesey and Lamorna Cove…long drives in discomfort. The best car for my London driving was the 205GTI, Red, first business car I owned shortly after starting up as a one man operation. Aftermarket sun roof, always leaked and when speeding into roundabouts, breaking occasionally, on my hectic sales trips, it often cut out/ hiccuped . They could never find or correct it.

Are you sure that mini shell did not had an extra O by mistake !!?
With Morgan prices a bit depressed, is it possible to renovate one at a sensible cost using tragedy repairers/rebuilders?
I certainly wish I had carried on repairing cars in my youth.
Best MM

Soz no idea how we got tragedy ….it was trade repairers
But whilst on - is it worth it. How much would be the max to spend on a 79 plus 8 . ? Any thoughts…

The tradegy bit comes when they drop their bill!!

Strikes me that for any average classic (car or bike) that it currently only makes sense to do any sort of in-depth restoration if you have the spread of skills to do most of it yourself .... there's not enough meat in the final valuation to be paying £50+ per hour for what will inevitably be a labour intensive undertaking.

Definitely this. DiY is a deal beaker. Never mind the parts...labour cost soon mounts up. You start the job...then discover the hidden stuff that increases the build.

New classic Mini shells for a resto start at about £12k up to £16k for a Mk1, that's just in cheap primer and the panel alignment will need fine tuning

Values are interesting, a 10 year old Trad Mog is overtaken by a 60 yr old Cooper

That was what my first post alluded to the Morgan's in monetary terms have bombed with the rest of the sector but Land Rovers, fast Fords and Mini's seem to have opened up peoples nostalgia streak and wallets. Totally bonkers 12k for a mini shell.

Land Rover and Mini prices have dropped, just not as significantly as Morgans.

Series Land Rover prices reached a plateau a decade or so ago, in fact may have gone down a tad since and there have always been bargains. Some sellers aspire to crazy prices but few are actually sold at such. The number still around and good availability of spares ensures such. The market for noisy vehicles with extremely heavy steering and no synchro on first or second is not getting any larger - even less so for fuel gobbling petrol versions.
