Aircraft were a childhood fascination that never left, imaging growing up in that big house overlooking the airfield, you’d have front row seats everyday.
Car looks great by the way, a Morgan blends in well at airshows. Unfortunately have not driven my Morgan today, weather is overcast and decidedly damp, however.... Just so happens, all be it very hard for me to believe... that I live in a big house compared to my parents council tenement where I spent my formative years. As I sit in my armchair typing I can lift my eyes and look across the valley to the airfield where I earned my coin for nearly 40 years.... The runway distant enough and running close to parallel with the house thus out of the main flight path so much so that the sound of arriving and departing aircraft is in no way intrusive to my old ears, being so used to hearing them in much closer quarters in times past...(-: On the few occasions I took the Mog to the airport it was very well received... (-:

Excellent example shot depicting the sensible level of ground clearance on our Plus 8's on good profile tyres (55's) which also soak up the potholes compared to the later elastic band standard fit tyres of CX series..
The 4/4 Sport on 80 Section tyres the potholes are barely perceptible and my weapon of choice for covering distance now despite Henrietta now showing 117,700mls and 45mpg driven briskly.
The lake looks nice. Richard, such is my habit of taking to roughly surfaced roads on occasion that I do have to admit to my old Mogs sump bearing the occasional scar despite it`s old fashioned "stance" in comparison with the more stylish drag ar*e look that seems to have been in style for quite some time. I well remember when offered to drive the then new 993 at it`s launch, looking at what seemed like very small sidewall profile tyres compared to my old 911 and thinking this is going to be a rough ride... to then be most surprised in that it was anything but, and with increased directional stability when cornering reasonably hard... Seems Porsche had as Porsche engineers tend to do, redesigned the whole suspension system to suit what seemed like very low profile tyres at the time.... I suspect the MMC required to as ever go with the flow all be it a few years behind in terms of lowering the "stance" to more suit the modern motoring trends, and by the time they may have adopted lower profile tyres a complete suspension re-design was likely to be required if not desired, thus the CX seemed to be the next logical phase in the design... Best to just look upon it as natural evolutionary processes..? (-: BTW my 991 sits on 245/35`s on 20" wheels (front) and 305/30/R20 rear thus even lower profile than the 993 i drove all those years back...! I was an avid reader of Motor Sport when we had proper top grade racing instead of the flying laptop prima dona era for which I have zero interest. I digress, the Jenks wrote very wisely when reviewing cars handling critically and he would often refer to the Bavarian Motor Werks making up for their poos suspension gemetry by putting stupid sized wheels and tyres to compensate for their inadequacies. This rings very true for me especially when I throw my Sport around on her 80 section skinny tyres. the Plus 8 on the Lightweight MMC alloys at 16" x 7" has the same effect of not letting go on her 55 sections. I have to say that Lough Neagh being the most significant lake in Britain and Ireland by a country mile is deserving of a name all it's own at 19 x 9 miles, The Germans are all a See which gets a little confusing for Brits..

(-: It was an autojourno understudy of Jenks and his Porsche 356 writing in Motorsport Jan 1970 that turned my head to think that perhaps there was something to be though worthwhile in that which I had considered as no more than souped up Beetles up till that point in time, ever having been a fan of all things Lotus... After my first rot box Porsche restoration, I was well and truly hooked, on the 911 form follows functional design ideology...Though that was in the air cooled era. There can be little doubt of the increased capabilities of larer water cooled Porsches, but just like the earlier chat on the evolution of bikes, I still think for the enthusiast sports car driver, that air cooled is personally my idea of peak Porsche... (-:

(-: It's all about Morgan experiences but including other marques we have known and loved. As far as the 911 goes the black one Ewan shot in Geneva was the peak in all ways to my eyes. The closest we got to having one was when I worked in Germany there was a red Targa for sale in the local garage that got very close. Not today, but Sunday (my natural tardiness creeping in 🙂) .... as the hood hasn't been up since our Goodwood trip 2 years ago the forecast of rain made us put it up to give it a stretch in case we needed it in a hurry! .... left it up overnight then dropped it for a run out to the Fraserburgh Vintage Car Rally (not really a 'show person' but like to support this as it's local )..... lots of great cars and bikes, and the weather held dry! ...
