Unless you have driven a 4/4 Sport you won’t get it, they are special and Morgan got back into focus in 2009 as they realised they had lost their way with heated seats, easy up roofs and spare wheels et al. I agree with your first two points, but a spare tire in the rear—as is still possible today in the Plus Four—was already a feature of the 1939 4-4 Le Mans. Basically, the rear end looked the same back then as it does today. I find the look of a Morgan without a spare tire in the rear incomplete—I like that. Surprisingly there's only about 20 kgs difference between the weight of a duratec and sigma engine, and the spare wheel and rear rack (about 20 to 25k ) would add considerably to the 4/4 rear weight bias, so not quite as pure.
Without question my 2012 Plus 4 sport was the best handling trad, I have enjoyed, so I like the sport versions as long as they haven't added lots of weight to dilute the purity. Nice cars. As I pointed out obviously the extras like spare wheel and travesty of a rear rack side pockets and easy up need removing to return this car to true Sport status - it is now a lardy standard 4/4 not an 800Kg lithe beast. What I liked about my plus 4 sport was the single piece of aluminium across the rear deck, with no spare wheel cut out, I'm sure that added to the structural rigidity at the rear and resultant improved ride and handling over my other trads with no extra weight of the spare or luggage rack overhanging the rear axle. It was such a .pure uncluttered look to the rear. The larger higher profile tyres fitted from new over the standard Plus 4 tyres, increased the ground clearance slightly and gave a very flat and planted cornering feel.

Indeed Rich....+8 that is, You are so right. The Cx has changed the face of Morgan buying and those younger buyers that would have shuffled through a few classic's during their earlier years will be buying the CX and beyond platform cars if that is Morgan takes their fancy at all!
John, I can feel for your friends re. the ride returned from the classic's due totally to our dilapidated roads, I cannot say it doesn't effect me too! An interesting point here though is my son tells me that sitting in the passenger seat is really comfortable and its hanging onto the controls that makes it such a raw and somewhat overly physical experience!
Now talking about my son.... when he was a kid I gave him my Marshall stack (amplifiers for guitars) and a 3/4 size guitar, no interest whatsoever! I sold it all eventually. Then at about 18/19 years old a basic bass guitar arrived in the post for him, he'd obviously done his homework as it was the best for the money he could have bought. "You used to play the bass dad, didn't you?" Well many custom guitars and amps etc. later He's finished a masters in music ,he's in two bands and more on the recording and session side have evolved. What's all this about I hear you say? Well a couple of months ago an old morris minor arrived on a flat bed trailer, "Thought you could show me how to fix it dad, find out what's wrong with it and teach me how to do it". Well, we're just about finished now and he's absolutely loving it. To watch his confidence grow and skill with the tools improve daily has been brilliant, so here's another spanner monkey made for the future!
He loves our Morgan and is 25 next year so gets to drive it himself! I know he'll never sell it, but to be able to fully enjoy his ownership time in the way I have is a gift you cannot force on a person but It must give us hope for the future that albeit perhaps a smaller percentage of the populous might be taking taking part ...... it will still be relevant in times to come.
Finally let's remember something Jullian said a while ago..... "Let's not see our mogs as rising assets, rather as something we use and enjoy. The price its worth when we sell is the market, the value we got during our time with it is what that ownership gave us". It's the price we pay for our pleasure. Words might be different but sentiment the same! It must be very reassuring and pleasing that your son enjoys the Morgan and it will continue to have a place in your family......thats what it should all be about, shared passions. I've never bought a car as an investment, because invariably I've lost money on every one bar one..............they are there for your enjoyment, the only hope being it doesn't become a bottomless pit for money, and there is someone else looking for the exact same thing when its time to get out of it, hopefully not too painful on the pocket parting experience, and leaves you with some money to fund the next adventure...

Yes John it is, I think he 's come late to the game compared to my generation but I suppose their life is very different. Apprenticeships started at 16 for me yet he's approaching mid 20's and although his life is jam packed with part time jobs and music he's really only just left education.
It wasn't unusual for my dad to say "don't make any plans this weekend we're giving the car a de-coke or doing the brakes etc. So it was normal for me to see those jobs as routine. At his age now I'd left the Army and was flying for Bristow Helicopters. I'm not sure that the current education regime forced on the young of today has really been a great success. Most jobs in their futures certainly do not need these old style degree courses forced on them and the fee's and loan system could only have been devised by the mafia.... it makes taking on an old time mortgage like we did to buy a house seem quite reasonable. They are leaving with a debt that takes a huge amount direct from their salary every month which supposedly pays down the debt but in fact the interest rate means that the debt continues to increase making their year on year contributions higher as the amount of the debt increases year on year. The godfather, or Rachael from accounts has now deemed that the debt will be cancelled out at 30 years but they not only will never have paid it off, rather ,they will have paid a continuous rising repayment faction monthly while they watch the debt continue to increase. so unlike a mortgage for a house where it will pay it down and your repayments annually will reduce the debt, not so for the generation X youngsters! Oh and no house to show for it either at the end. They also, Dodgy Dave and his dodgy partners in crime who oversaw the birth of this ridiculous scheme said it wouldn't affect their ability to acquire a mortgage to buy a house. Dah! of course it does its an outgoing charge on their income and taken into account by any bank or building society. I'd like to share my predictions as to how society is about to break down catastrophically in this country but I'm not sure whether it will be socialist or fascist but for sure it is coming in fact its already started! When someone like Martin Lewis is telling my generation to spend our money and not invest it.... well!
Now, where did I put that biscuit tin! Under the mattress of course!

My first Morgan was a 4/4 Sport, which was soon discovered to be another word for very basic.
Granted, it was a toe in the water car which was soon found to need engine revs in abundance to make any decent progress.
The Trad Plus 4 is, to coin the phrase, shed loads superior - especially with the ClubSport upgrade.
Asking 30k for a 2010 model sounds extremely optimistic.
