I agree with your first two points, but a spare tire in the rear—as is still possible today in the Plus Four—was already a feature of the 1939 4-4 Le Mans. Basically, the rear end looked the same back then as it does today. I find the look of a Morgan without a spare tire in the rear incomplete—I like that. Of course, I’m not referring to the version shown here with the tire on the luggage rack; that’s visually unappealing.


What I liked about my plus 4 sport was the single piece of aluminium across the rear deck, with no spare wheel cut out, I'm sure that added to the structural rigidity at the rear and resultant improved ride and handling over my other trads with no extra weight of the spare or luggage rack overhanging the rear axle. It was such a .pure uncluttered look to the rear. The larger higher profile tyres fitted from new over the standard Plus 4 tyres, increased the ground clearance slightly and gave a very flat and planted cornering feel.
