A couple of months ago I decided to board my garage loft and clear out a load of accumulated junk.

Bad plan!

My pal is having a bit of trouble with his A40 sport and we need to replace the coil (you know what’s coming)

‘I’ve got a good used one in the loft and a set of leads too’, said I

Bugger!

I watched a rerun of Danger UXB the other night. That's my garage, that is.

The corollary to this is:

1. I know I've got an XXX, but which shed is it in?
2. Oops, can't find it, I'll have to buy another.
3. The day after the new XXX arrives.....
4. Ah well, now I have 2 to forget where they are.

I have a different problem that follows me from house to house, I put think things down and they disappear only to re-appear 3 months later in exactly the same place. I am currently awaiting my wedding ring to come back.

Started clearing out all my old Land Rover / motor cycle, Mini & Lotus spares circa 40 years ago, when I had bought a reconditioned either starter or alternator for my bro in law`s Escort which I was repairing for him, only some time later tripping over one in one of my sheds... Of course over the next 30 or so years I became a tad more selective as my automotive interests evolved, I had gathered a load of TR 2/3 bits for the restoration of a 55 well rotted TR2 that i never got round to nailing back together, in the process inadvertently inherited an engine that came out of a twin spare +4 being TR related but carrying an engine ident that carried the ME prefix to it`s stamped on serial number.... circa 10 years back, given I had retired and did not wish my good lady to be left with all this "junk" to dispose of, I decided it was time for another clear out... Gathering up yet another load of treasures, such as ALL-FIN brake drums, that old ME engine, the plethora of TR gearboxes cyl heads carbs dynamos starters dash instruments of all types of stuff from a variety of mundane marques I had run as dailies over the intervening decades.. Have to admit I was very tempted to keep the ALL-FIN alloy drums, just polish them up and hang them on the garage wall... But..NO, they had to go...

Looking around the garage I built to replace the demolished piggery sheds, There is a 911 SC engine lid complete with wiper arm hanging on the wall...along with enlarged laser-cut Carrera 4 S script that a friend gave me to illustrate the abilities of laser capability, and still more "treasures" that I am ever likely to make use of , though it seems amongst the stuff I skipped, must have been my impact screw driver, which I was looking for perhaps a week past, when I thought to remove the Philips head retaining screws on front discs, and apply a light smear of copper slip to ensure their easy removal if/when, I might ever get round to replacing the discs and pads....I suspect in my eagerness to clear out as much as possible after my good lady passed, I may have skipped that too...

Yeah things do not always work out to plan.... pity.. Though overall, there are many fewer obstructions around the garage for me to trip over as I stumble around the place...
Having typed that perhaps time to get my rear end into the old Mog and blow some of the cobwebs off...

I put things in a "safe place"...

...the issue is that it is so safe that even I don't know where it is after a few months...

I'd like to blame The Twilight Zone but I'm relatively sure the explanation is more mundane and 'me-centric'.

It's the gremlins, blame the gremlins.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Not the gremlins, it's murphy. His law always applies when having a clear out. A while back I had a good garage clear out only for a month or so later for my son to ask for the XXX which he knew I had. Unfortunately I had thrown it out during the clear out, oops.

I lovingly refer to my garage loft as the Parts Dept

Has anyone got one of those grubby brown storemans coats I could borrow ?
