Is 900 rpm normal for a 2011 Plus 4 (2l Duratec). I am a new owner and this seems a bit high but not sure what is normal.
I would use the search function but I keep getting a Securi access denied message when I click on any of the search results. Another problem to overcome!

Perhaps the best way to search the talkmorgan website is not to use the internal forum search function but to simply do a google search, eg in google enter
normal rpm for a duratec site:talkmorgan.com
The site: option means google will only return results from that particular website (ie Talkmorgan)
You can force Google to find web pages that contain a particular set of words like this:
idle AND rpm AND duratec site:talkmorgan.com

Search reveals 700 - 750 rpm is normal for 2 litre Duratec. Agree that Dave's search suggestion is best to find historic threads on TM. I usually just add Talk Morgan suffix to any google search criteria.

That's running a bit high. I have posted a few times before on this subject so do as Richard says and do a google search. There are some simple things to check. I'm a tad busy right now but if you are struggling PM me and we'll swap numbers and I'll talk you through it. Don't know whether you chose that year of plus 4 by design or accident but in my opinion its the best of the best classic wise when it comes to plus 4!

First and most obvious check to make when idle speed is too high is to look for an air leak in the inlet tract. Loose/missing air filter, split conduit, loose clamps etc.

Thanks everyone for their input. I picked up the car yesterday from a reputable Morgan dealer who had just had it MOTed and serviced. Unfortunately they are 90 miles away else I’d pop back and check with them. I will raise it if general consensus is that it’s high. I have seen the 750 figure for a Duratec but also 800-900 for a Morgan!
Sewin, I hadn’t chosen that year specifically. It just came up as a well spec’d and condition car. Certainly better than my 1974 4/4 I had previously.

Carefully spray carb cleaner over the air inlet track. If the revs go up you have a leak. Do it out side and carefully unless you want an explosion.

Just to confuse the issue, my 2011 plus 4, now with 60k miles on the clock has always shown around 1000 revs at tick over since new, though it does not sound abnormal. It has never concerned me but I will have a poke about at the next opportunity. It could of course be down to the accuracy of the rev counter.

Carefully spray carb cleaner over the air inlet track. If the revs go up you have a leak. Do it out side and carefully unless you want an explosion. Theoretically that would work but an aerosol will mean that the air cleaner inlet will get a sniff of it so not proving anything. This was demonstrated on my Land Rover, albeit diesel, after cleaning up with brake cleaner following fuel lift pump renewal. I was surprised how much the idle speed rose.
