She shed her throttle cable Tuesday night on the way home but with so much torque available made it home having "jury rigged" the throttle at 900 rpm with a tywrap" she made it effortlessly from Dartmouth to home - try that on the newer generation Aero's or CXes..

Looking forward to getting my 48" chest and 17.75 Stones into the footwell to replace the cable on our return from our holiday in Eire.

It's a good job my good lady is a yoga expert and could easily slip inside a Coke bottle around 8.5 Stone wet and a 10/12 as it'll save me taking the seat out.



BHM had a couple in stock and it will probably arrive today, they are good Sarah and the team.

What's a throttle cable . Seriously though things haven't improved with DBW. You still have to invent ways to get your substantially less bendy body into the depths of footwell when things go tit's up and you haven't got an accommodating partner. Good luck Richard.

Good old Sarah, just arrived in the post this morning.

During my routine maintenance a few years back, I noticed a broken strand at the throttle body end and several broken adjacent to the adjuster by the bulkhead, just where it leaves the pedal.
Having seen the exorbitant price of a replacement, as the outer was still perfectly good, I used the cable repair kit in a tin from Carbuilder Solutions (CRKIT currently £12)
This contains two long inners of different diameters and a host of ferrules to suit any occasion . Worked a treat and I now always carry one in the tool rack as it hardly takes up any space at all.

Richard you have just reminded me that on my first 4/4 Sport the brake light switch failed and it was then that I educated all about the second pair of contacts being used as a stop fuelling signal to the ECU, quite a while ago now. The footwell was a total nightmare for me ..

And when the stop fuelling switch starts to fail - as it is bound to - the car starts to hesitate - as I found out on our 4/4. Thereafter I carried spares of both the ECU input switch and the brake light switch. Because, of course, they were different - looked the same but one NC, the other NO.

As a young electronics engineer in the telecommunications industry, I learnt about “wetting currents”. Whoever designed that ECU input / switch combination should be made to swap several such switches with their legs tied together.

I remember at the time mine failed on the brake light side I posted both RS Components switch reference numbers on here somewhere, at least ten years ago now I would say.

The footwell experience was bad enough back then..

p.s. I have this vision in my head now of poor apprentices with legs tied together trying to get out of the well before hunger and thirst overtake them..

On the plus side an efficient way of loosing weight I found to my surprise. Put it down to the physical exercise of muscles rarely used and the stress of getting the job finished over a couple of days.
