Help! The center windscreen wiper keeps coming loose at its base on my new 2025 Plus Four. Can anyone enlighten me as to the "workings" underneath? Is there a nut that I can't see that has vibrated loose? I tighten the outer nut but after a few trips in the rain, it loosens again and the entire outer mechanism dances around on the bonnet. Its threaded "tube" protrudes much further (higher, more threads exposed) than the other two wipers. Isn't this bending the wipers' connecting bar by drawing it upward more than the other two wipers? The dealer thinks that the dashboard has to be removed to diagnose and fix the ongoing problem. I'll reserve that as my absolute last employed action. I'd appreciate advice or even a parts book illustration so I might better understand what's going on and "creatively" tighten it properly from the exterior. I have an idea that might work but I need to comprehend what's going on underneath before implementing my idea. Thanks guys!

I recall this being a common event with CX cars, one owner arriving at an event in rainy weather with just one left and working, fortunately in front of driver. He'd recovered one and lost the other. I believe this was down to the wiper arms where they engage with splined shaft having too thinner outer walls so they distorted as tightened down to the point they became too loose to stay in place. I would have thought this seemingly common problem would have been resolved by now assuming this is not a new issue.

Two basic requirements of a car

1 : A reliable radiator.

2 : Wipers that do their job.

Being that both requirements have been there from the beginning of car ownership and MMC can't get either right it doesn't fill potential customers with confidence I wager.

Good afternoon Moggin, ok we have been where you are now. I have a 2020 Plus Six, it has had 3 sets of wiper linkage.
If the problem is the trunnion drive coming loose ( the bit that sticks up and the wiper blade attach to it ) then you have to drop the dash to access the interior wiper mechanism. As you car is 2025 it should still be under warranty. Having had major issues with the wipers I strongly suggest you do not work on them if the vehicle still has warranty. The internal mechanism is very adjustable plus the trunnion drives to the wipers should more or less be at the same height, their securing nuts location should be similar within a thread or two.
If the vehicle still has warranty I would contact John Bower at the factory, he is the aftersales manager and responsible for warranty claims.
