A friend has decided to sell his 2012 Superdry and has asked me for an idea of current values. He is selling it himself, privately, and although the car has under 5,000 miles on the clock, it is not in the best condition cosmetically, although it has been tidied up very nicely. It drives reasonably well and has had the Empire front suspension from nearly new.

Can anyone suggest a realistic price as a private sale for it now please?

Many thanks.

Dealer prices seem to be in the 25 to 30k region for this age M3W

Private sale, non-standard modifications, a bit tatty round the edges, 'novelty' paint scheme, The low miles indicates lack of use and potentially significant recommissioning costs. I'd probably expect a great deal less as the pool of potential buyers is small and dealer support for these cars is probably valued quite highly. Ask for 24 and settle for 20 would be my guess.

An early car, so has it has all the MMC upgrades, cooling fan, chassis brace, centa conversion, steel drive pulley and if centa conversion has it had the quick change roller mod. An early car without these will cost £1000's to bring up to a reliable spec.

Suggest your friend talks to Craig @ M3W Services UK - he has helped with sale of a few cars

Mathewsons just sold a 2014 M3W. It was red with black interior and V screens. It had the Bleazey conversion and a special Stage 3 engine. It was well known in MTWC as having had an enthusiastic previous owner.

It was bid to £16,000 and in post auction negotiation it was sold for £18,000 plus commission, say just a fraction over £20,000 in total. That's an open market sale by an auctioneer with a high profile. Albeit it had no dealer warranty, which could be an important factor to a purchaser. However, it was a superbly spec'd M3W and that what the market thought it was worth.

With no disrespect to anyone else selling a M3W privately, that's what they have to bear in mind.

Incidentally, the Morgan Three Wheeler Touring Group are a wonderful bunch of M3W users and more power to their collective elbow.

Unfortunately it looks like UK prices are still at a low, I had hoped they were beginning to rise again but with prices as stated above I'm not so sure.

EU prices seem to have dropped a little since beginning of year but not to the same degree as UK prices.

Although the Mathewson's m3w looked nice - did it have the Centa upgrade (as not stated in the auction blub) and was it stage 3 or just stage 2 (I ask as their is currently an m3w on Autotrader that states it has a stage 3 but in fact its only a stage 2 tune - paperwork was incorrect).

And Car & Classic sold an early car last month - lower mileage and main dealer history (although that does not imply it has a Centa drive) that also sold for £20.5k plus fees. (appeared on Ebay a week later for £25k...)

I hope that as these are such a unique vehicle, prices will start to climb next year(?) as people start to appreciate the fact that there will never be anything like it produced again.

I suspect there are plenty of potential purchasers who are delighted that the cars are coming within their reach, though.

Hi Steve, I know the long term owner well. He sold it a few years ago to the guy who put it in the auction. The long term owner raced it and wanted to upgrade. So he paid MMC to put in a replacement larger capacity engine, just over 2 litres, He continued to race it and had the distinction of being the only M3W to win a race outright against a field of pre-1952 Morgan Three Wheelers. It was at Donington about 10 years ago.

The interest group for these cars is so narrow that public auctions are less likely to put together a car and a prospective buyer ... the consequence is a low price if the seller wants the car gone. Working potential connections and patience are likely to produce the best price but in the current environment, I suspect we are in a real price trough ... as Steve says, prices may climb as/when the unique character vs an anodyne box becomes attractive to a new potential owner set. In the meantime, let's relish the fun we can have as owners/drivers!!
