Greetings to the brain trust.
I wanted to grease the front suspension on the delightful 2019 3.7 Roadster I just purchased from Morgans West. I had added about 400 miles since taking stewardship.
I purchased a Lock N Lube Pistol grip 5000, a 90 degree adaptor and Valvoline Moly Gray grease and set about it.
I did not jack the front end up this time because of space constraints due to construction at Mi Casa.
When I started pumping on the upper zirc fitting, the handle squeeze felt normal. There was a slight hissing sound. I did 6 pumps and saw nothing coming out of anywhere so I stopped and did the bottom also 6 squeezes. Still nothing expelling from any orifices. I did the other side exactly the same with the exact same result.
Is that a normal result?

You won't see any reaction from greasing the top (but correct to do it) depending on how dry the bottom end is you will eventually see it burp some excess from around the lower spring bearing, but this can be concealed a bit by the rubber bearing cover

Most important is to wipe off any excess to stop brake disc contamination (a old sock is handy for this)

The grease will also creep out of the bottom bush, so clean that regularly too

Yes there is old grease sitting there. I was going to carefully clean that out.

I am a little suspicious of that slight hissing sound that you mentioned. It could be that there is an airlock in the grease gun, which is not unusual when loaded for the first time, and you are not pumping grease at all! For reassurance, try pumping it a few times without attachment to the car to see if grease actually exudes in a purposeful way. Is there an air bleed screw or button on the gun?
Personally, I like to see excess grease coming out from around the lower bearing point; only then can i be absolutely sure that it’s got to where it should. I do mine every 500 miles, some do every 1000 and I think low mileage people only get it done at their annual service!

Hi and thanks for pointing that out. I absolutely cleared the grease gun prior to starting. It took a bit to get it working but once I got it situated I verified grease pumping smoothly all the way through the hose before I started. Also you know the smooth pressure when pumping has a different feel than when you are pumping nothing.

Just be aware Scott that old grease can creep out anywhere and from experience usually where your not looking. It will also seep out further after a few miles following greasing so best check again after suspension has worked for a few miles.

Good idea to clean off the old grease using a sacrificial sock wrapped around upper and lower parts of sliding stub axle then finish the job with brake cleaner to remove any that's smeared the brake discs.

Yes I was actually going to clean the bulk of with a cloth but I like sock idea. I got some degreaser and a brush to finish off. I'll protect the brakes with a sheet of cardboard or some bin bags.

Can I ask a stupid question? Is the roadster greasing different to a Plus 4 of 2005 vintage?
